Eugene T. Mahoney State Park

Description

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park is a public recreation area located on the Platte River, just off Interstate 80, approximately east of Ashland, Nebraska. Among other features, the state park offers lodging and conferencing facilities, aquatic center, marina, trails, and theater. It was named after Eugene T. Mahoney, a former state senator and long-time director of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, who is credited with reversing the fortunes of the moribund state park system during his directorship. As of 2014, the park was the state's third most visited tourist attraction.HistoryPark development began with the state's purchase of the site in 1985. The park was dedicated on May 19, 1991. In honor of its namesake's Irish heritage, the Mahoney family crest was chosen as the symbol of the park and a loop of cabins was named after County Cork in the Republic of Ireland, the Mahoney family's ancestral home.Activities and amenitiesPark features and activities include picnicking areas and hiking trails, horseback trail rides, fishing, a marina with paddleboat rental, miniature golf and a driving range. Athletic facilities include an aquatic center, 18-hole disc golf course, tennis and basketball courts, softball fields and sand volleyball. A 70ft observation tower overlooks the Platte River Valley. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, sledding and toboggan runs, ice fishing, and an ice skating rink. An activity center, indoor playground and activity simulators are open year-round. The Kountze Theater is a cultural highlight of the park.

Took our granddaughter and one of her friends to the water park last week. We had an amazing afternoon playing in the splash pad, and riding the waves in the wave pool. A place for the whole family. Everything is fee based for attractions like horse back riding, swimming, activity center, and crafts. Plenty of opportunity for free fun though. No restaurant on premisis at this time, but close to great places to eat
A huge park with a water park, disc golf, fishing, paddle boats, driving range, hiking, horseback riding, go ape rope challenge, indoor playground, cabins, and so much more! And you are just down the road from platte river state park..another awesome park. This is one of the best state parks in Nebraska.
$30 year pass and $6 daily pass. Great camping experience. Been many times. The showers are free, no money needed. Laundry room, Electric bike are for rent near the cabins. Two parks pool, horse, bike repair station, and much more. Playground: Two playgrounds Restrooms: April 2023, New shower walls and new shower heads, no money needed. Dog-friendliness: Yes, must on a dog leash Picnic area: All over the park.
We had a family camp out there, and we enjoyed it so much. The only problem we had was that. The fire rings for the campfires are on a slat near the campers. The bathrooms need repair and should be cleaned daily. It is very dog friendly and we of course brought along our two dogs. The roarsenment and good for walking dogs.
Park is fantastic. So many fun activities for the whole family! Even though this is a year round state park and Campground, some of the activities are halted after Labor Day. Lucky for us we didn't come for the kid's stuff, we came to unwind and enjoy the beautiful weather and outdoor activities. If you are wanting lots of activities for the family, I'd make sure to check out their online schedule of events. Grounds are easily walkable, I'd say some of the areas have gotten overgrown with weeds and such, but that's probably because its the end of fall and they're waiting for the rest to go dormant, to come in and do a final landscaping for the season. Beautiful trails and views. We're camping and absolutely appreciate the wide open spaces between campers/RVs where you can spread out and have some breathing room.. Bathrooms are for the most part clean. However the showers in the bathhouse at the Little Creek Campground needs some serious attention. That's the only disappointment thus far. We're planning to stay 14 days in total and we have moved campsites when we found another one that suited us better. We would definitely stay longer if allowed. Dog-friendliness: Keep your dogs on a leash for everyone's safety. You may think its ok to allow your dog to walk beside or in front of you unleashed, but you do not know how another dog will respond when your dog comes charging up to someone else's dog. So do us ALL a favor and leave them on their leash as the park requires.
We went to the Aquatics pool and it was great! We loved the wave pool and prices! The 2 large slides are heavy person friendly!
I love this park, it's one of our favorites to visit year round. In the winter we like going to the indoor kids activity center. It's super affordable and the kids can spend half of the day here. In the summer we visit the multiple outdoor playgrounds. There is so much to do here you could stay for days and not get board. The pool here is clean and refreshing with large waterslides. We hope to go camping in one of their cabins this summer.
My family and I have nothing but amazing memories here. I look back on these photos and I see all my family experiencing adventures and coming out on the other side! We have camped at little creek campground and that is our favorite campsite. I learned how to back up my parents camper successfully. We don’t typically camp during the winter but there’s always plenty to do if you are willing to bundle up and view nature.
The best place to go camping, hiking and spending time with family and friends. To get some fresh air amd there are lots of thins to do. We had limited time with our stay but planning on going back there next year. Just FYI, I heard you have to book ahead of time. The Boyscout of America Jubilee 2022 was a success and very fun event and they picked the right venue! Mahoney State Park. Had a great time here! Playground: Large Play ground closed to the cabin just a walking distance Dog-friendliness: You can bring your pet with a small fee when renting a cabin Picnic area: A lot of location to do picnic.
What a fun place to visit. There is so much to do that I am sure to miss some of it. Highlights; Pool Aquatic Center, multiple playgrounds, horse back riding, Zip linking and Ropes Course, a look out tower near river and we found a couple trails to walk as well. The park cost to get in and most of the activities cost. But I felt that it was reasonable. The water park is by far a favorite for my family. We did not stay in the park but we did spend a full day at Mahoney State Park. Be sure to follow the directions and post your park vehicle permit where you are told to.
