Description

History: Everhart-Bove Funeral Service, with chapels in Wintersville, Richmond and Bergholz, Ohio, celebrates it's 30th anniversary in the year 2006. Wayne Everhart, who moved to the Valley in 1975 and Daniel Bove, Jr., a native of Mingo Jct. and a resident of Wintersville, OH, own and operate the practice.

In 1976, Wayne and Pennie (Palmer) Everhart opened the Bergholz location in what was once Pennie's grandparents variety store for nearly 50 years. The building has been a place of trade in Bergholz since the late 19th Century. It has been twice remodeled and seats over 100 guests attending funerals.

The Richmond building was first established cir. 1820 and was occupied by the village's first doctor, Anderson Judkins. Through the course of the next 100 years, the building was channeled through some 23 owners; a tailor, a tin shop and saddle maker, a shoe shop. Between 1862 and 1884, it served as the village Post Office. The seventh owner, according to village historian, the late Donald Thompson, was Steubenville native Edwin Stanton, a congressman, supreme court judge and most notably, President Lincoln's secratery of war.

In the very early 1900's the building was remodeled adding a west wing of four rooms and an ornate porch. In 1953, Lloyd W. Burns, erected a small building in front of the house where a confectionary and ice cream shop was operated until it's removal in 1975. Everhart bought the building in 1981. He added the first of four additions to the building and opened the funeral operation in 1982.

Growing with increased demands, expansion projects were completed in 1986, 1995 and 2000, doubling the floor space in the home, creating mutiple viewing rooms and a large seating capacity with over 60 off street parking places. The firm also kept pace with innovations in funeral services, funeral merchandise, and the very latest in service delivery systems. A succession plan was instituted in 2005 when Daniel B. Bove, Jr. purchased an interest in the practice and became co-owner/operator along with Everhart. In May of 2009 a third chapel was opened at 685 Canton Road, Wintersville to meet the growing needs of the funeral homes.

A blend of tradition and innovation serves every need the funeral consumer requires. Serving the living while caring for the deceased is the hallmark of service at Everhart-Bove. The Mission Statement (found on this site) is a guide to superior customer service at modest charges.
