This Facebook page will hopefully give you an idea of what it's like to step into our shop - that is, a brief escape from your day into our fantasy world of cupcakes! Sing along with classic show tunes, say "Hello" to Emerson the (Ferris-wheel) Peacock or enjoy some great coffee or any of our other hand selected beverages. Most days, we have Cake Truffles out to sample, so you might be in for a treat...

My husband and I had a great experience with ordering our wedding cake from Extraordinary Cupcakes! We had a lovely tasting, and the team was very responsive and helpful in the weeks leading up to the wedding. The delivery and setup went off without a hitch, and our guests absolutely loved our cake and kept commenting how delicious it was! Very excited to eat our frozen piece on our first anniversary. :
Easily the best cupcakes I’ve had in my life; freshman year of college I regularly walked the 1.4 mi. round trip to get some when they were still on Richmond Rd. The first time I tried them, I got fantastic vanilla flip vanilla cake, choco icing and split some with my roommate; it was so good she legit proposed to me on the spot and changed her FB status lol My favorites were the salted caramel as you can see from the giant bite before the picture, fantastic vanilla flip, and Marvelous Madagascar I can’t go anymore since I’m no longer in the ‘Burg, but I encourage others to try them and have a bite for me!
OMG! Just wonderful cupcakes. I love the Madagascar Vanilla it was divine and so was the carrot cake flavor. My husband said he enjoyed the Extraordinary chocolate. Worth every penny! Thinking about driving back now for some more
Positives- the cupcakes are SO good! Negatives- parking for the new location in CW is very chaotic during summer tourist season on the weekends. Even though they tell you to use the loading zone, just getting to the parking lot and hoping that space is open takes forever. Not ideal for locals. I ordered ahead of time and received a text saying they were ready. I arrived 20 min later and the front desk said they were still not ready, which didn’t make sense.
I had been visiting the Richmond Road location for years with extremely great service and the best quality cupcakes! I would make the 1 hour drive from Richmond just for these cupcakes. Well that changed when I ordered online for the new location at Illy Cafe and have never been more let down. Not only were the staff extremely rude at the counter when I asked about my pickup order but it took almost an hour to even get the cupcakes I ordered. I had to ask about my order 2x. I was shocked at how the lady spoke to me just for simply asking if they even received my order. The cupcakes icing was melting when I finally got my order and cake itself was dry. What happened? Sadly I will not return here simply for the poor service and the long wait time.
Cupcakes are YUMMY!! Easy to order and pick up, great customer service - a huge hit at surprise birthday party. Ordered variety and we couldn’t decide a favorite, they are ALL good!
I have loved this place from day 1. The prices have gone up over the years, but the quality is exactly the same. I am however sad now of the new location inside of Merchant Square. I had too order online, find a spot to park, and walk through the Square to get my cupcakes. This is terribly inconvenient. This is my second complaint in all the years I have supported this business. I will continue too support though, because these cupcakes are just like the name! lol
Had an INCREDIBLE 1st experience with Extraordinary Cupcakes today! The bakery is extremely clean and tidy with lovely fresh smells coming from the back! The display of the available Cupcakes was neat and clean and very attractive to the eye! The service we received was way above average and exceeded my expectations in every way! The lovely human at the cash register was so sweet and had a warm and welcoming manner that made her so easy to talk to. My husband has Gluten Intolerance and we were in the shop for our upcoming wedding needs! She helped us choose our flavors and made him his gluten free cupcakes on the spot! We were so impressed! As if that wasn't enough accolades, the cupcakes....ladies and gentlemen...these cupcakes are OTHER WORLDLY. I grew up with a Grandmother who owned a traditional bakery and let me tell you....these are HEAVEN! They were slightly warm in the inside and 100% freshly baked. The frosting and filling was amazing. Full stop! I have no idea who this amazing baker is but whoever you are, you are a GENIUS! I CANNOT WAIT for the exact second you contact us about our Gluten Free wedding cake because you are HIRED and my guests are going to FIGHT over your cake!
Small cupcake shop. Clean - the shop itself is cute but nothing extraordinary. We tried 3 cupcakes and the cheesecake. All of them tasted great but the cheesecake was outstanding - highly recommended. The Bodacious Boston crème would have been better with more crème. The Marvelous Madagascar was delish! Loved the buttery vanilla cake. Pricing was off - the cheesecake states $5/ on the menu but she charged $6 The can of coke price was not stated she charged $2.75 Would we go back… for a special occasion maybe. We would not seek them out - but also would not avoid.
We stopped at the Illy cafe for some gluten free cupcakes, not realizing they needed to be ordered online beforehand. When we asked the counterstaff if they had anything GF they just said no. A bit of a disappointment, but after heading home and doing some research i realized we needed to book an order online. Headed back an hour later and got what we wanted- my wife was raving about how good they were. I tried a bite gf chocolate/peanut butter icing and they were indeed awesome. I just wish the google map pin was updated to avoid future confusion and maybe cafe staff could have explained the process? rather than a simple 'no'.
