Ezra Box is a peer to peer storage platform for college students who need to store and for people who have extra space
Ezra Box is a Cornell University funded venture.
The idea of Ezra Box was realized by a group of international students at Cornell University who had gone through many troubles to store their belongings either free of cost or at reasonable prices during their underclassmen years. This team of students is now implementing this idea through Cornell’s International Students Union.
Storage is seen to be an expensive option for many college students – especially those who have to travel long distances to go home during breaks. Many students, including most international students, are only able to take their clothes and smaller valuables home because of traveling constraints. Hence, they either have to throw or store many other heavy weight purchases such as comforters, mirrors, furniture, bicycles, microwaves and refrigerators to name a few. The current storage options at many universities, including Cornell, are considered expensive by college students. Students are left to either scavenge for spaces where they can store their belongings for a lower cost or simply throw them.
So what is the idea...
Ezra Box is a virtual market where students with spaces can quote prices for their spaces to be used for a stipulated period and students with storage needs can either match these quotes or put quotes of their own. As a result, Ezra Box allows students to democratize the process of finding storage. In doing so, it not only institutionalizes the last minute process of hunting and searching for cheap storage but also provides a cheaper option to high priced storage companies.
On the other hand, this website provides students living in fraternity houses or standalone apartments the opportunity to earn an extra income, which in many cases can be a necessity for students.
Ezra Box’s MISSION is to make Cornell University more accessible and affordable to students from any walk of life.
Ezra Box’s PURPOSE is to develop a peer-to-peer storage model through which students can both access cheap storage options while allowing them to earn an extra income by allowing their spaces to be used for storage.
