Yesterday was my sons first day of school and it was an absolutely horrible experience. The first thing I saw was a child crying when his mother dropped him off. I understand this is normal for some children but usually by the middle of the school year children don't do that anymore. I have found in my experience that a child behaving that way this late in the year is a sign of psychological abuse. I was then escorted around the school and dropped my children off at their classrooms. I wanted to stay with my children primarily my youngest because he has difficulty transitioning into new environments and the principal went on the offensive refusing my request. I had to request for my children to be taken out of class just so I could explain to them and say good by. At the end of the day my youngest had a difficult time waiting inside until I arrived to pick him up. He was supposed to be taken out a different door where I was waiting through the whole incident that followed. He didn't want to wait inside until he was released to me and tried several times to leave the building. When he agreed to an earlier request to sit down and wait a teacher and the principal took him by the arms and drug him outside. He fell the day before and had a sore right where they were grabbing him under his arm. He, of course, resisted because he was in pain from their aggressive grip and kicked to free himself. I am not condoning his actions and he did receive consequences for his behavior, but the principal's reaction was unprofessional. Visibly upset she said to me, " You need to schedule an appointment with me to give me some history on this child! Look at my pants!" "This child" as in "this chair" and "this pen"...as in a THING I am not against working with my child's school to ensure the safety of others or to provide my child with the necessary assistance he needs to develop better emotional self regulation. I am opposed to working with a principal who's goal is to slap a label on my child so she can deny him meaningful educational experiences so her school looks better on paper. Her concern is not the well being, growth, and education of the children in her care. Her concern is the school's numbers and HER PANTS.
Great school!
