This department was founded in October 1959 by members of the Fairlea Ruritans. The first fire truck was obtained from the Navy in Norfolk, VA and was housed at the Sams Esso (Fairlea Exxon) until the spring of 1961, and then it was moved to the first fire house on West Fair Street. Presently the shower house at the WV State Fair this building was the fire station until 1983 at that time the need for a larger station was needed. After looking for a new location, a committee approached the WV State about a proposed location, at that time the Fair Board agreed to give a tract of land fire department. This tract of land is located on Third St. where the present fire station is located. The Fairlea Ruritains and Firemenettes also share the facility. The department has provided protection to the homes and businesses of Fairlea for the past 51 years. It has also been the main department to the provide Fire Service for the State Fair of West Virginia WV State Fair. The department has grown with the needs of the community, with the support of the community the fire department will be able to continue to provide quality service in the future. In closing, we the Fairlea Fire Department are proud to serve all of the fire and rescue area we have, but above all we are proud of past service to our community, and look forward to the growth of the community.
