The Fairmount Center was created by Wichita State University in the summer of 1995 to serve as a resource for K-12 science and math education.
The Center operates the Lake Afton Public Observatory, runs the Kansas Science Olympiad, hosts the Kansas Academy of Science's Kansas Junior Academy of Science and coordinates the JASON Project in Kansas. In addition, the Center was proud to have been responsible for the organization of the National Science Science Olympiad Tournament which was hosted by Wichita State in May 2007.
