This is very busy hospital. During the day emergency area is packed with people waiting in hallway for hours before they get admitted inside. Have feeling hospital is lacking medical personnel. This is inexcusable. People with serious cases are suffering outside for long time before they get medical attention.
Recent experience with EmPath unit was very disappointing. Other than talk to my family member they did nothing and sent them home with a diagnosis of depression and stress. Said to come back if things get worse. Now that things are worse my family member says what's the point to go back? I already talked to them and they said I should see a therapist. When we left that evening nobody was around. We had some of the paperwork with no instructions to wait for someone to discharge them so we left. 10 minutes later get a call asking when I was going to pick up my family member. I said we already left, and they go "oh shoot". I said I could come back and they said they would have someone call, which they never did. I called the next day and of course the person that saw my family member was not available that day. Have not heard back from anyone. A giant waste of time and money plus its going to be even harder now to get my family member to seek help. Now, the staff did set up some follow up appointments with a therapist. In theory a good idea in reality unworkable. The appointments are in Oakdale and downtown St. Paul. My family member lives in the western suburbs and is 80. Others in our family will have to assist and these times and locations are just not workable. The system is overloaded and broken. I have heard stories about this and now living it, it is true.
Delivered my baby at this hospital My doctor and delivery staff that performed my c-section definitely 5 stars . Everything about my c section went wonderful. Postpartum Hated every minute of it First I wanted catheter out, I had c section in the morning and wanted it out 4 hours later I was sure I was stable enough to walk the nurse said No. saying I should wait 6 hours I said I don’t want to and she insisted that I wait because if I can’t walk or use the restroom on my own she will have to put it back in after saying I’m sure I can walk and her keep telling me other reasons I said well I guess I have to wait until your ready. Wear my stitches are the dressing was 24 hours old I asked for it to be removed or replaced nurse told me no. Then one of my providers from my Obgyn came and said it needs to be removed or changed I was thinking thank goodness someone else feels like me so when I told my nurse my provider agreed she said well ok, I’m sure you’d like to shower like duh Testing my baby for juadice, the nurse said they have to take my baby to the nursery to be tested I said no I prefer they come to the room the nurse says the hospital is understaff so they have to take the baby, I said ok can my husband go with you she said no. No one is allowed in there. So she took my son to the test and my husband followed and waited outside the door, the nurse told me they would only prick his foot and take blood. But with out my consent they wiped : bathed him when I told them previously I’m waiting to do that took the clip off his belly button with out my permission I wanted to keep it it’s gone now and did the test. My baby slept way to long due to them doing all that and it’s upsetting because they did things to my child that I wasn’t informed of. My son was with my husband and I no most of the time while I recovered because that’s how I heal with family around me especially my son. The nurse asked me when she returned the next day how long did your don stay I said he’s been with me and my husband and she said well kids are not allowed here. I said well he’s here with my husband and she said after visiting he had to go. Consider he stayed with me the first night and no one ever said any thing about this to me I continue to have my don and husband with me My son left for most of the day I just had him with me at night because we just added to our family with a baby I believe he should be there with me and my husband any ways second night of recovery my son came back that night and a nurse said he can’t stay at the hospital it was 12 midnight So I said well if my family can’t be with me I’d like to be discharged and I was, no medication given and I had to take my next dose at 4:00 am thank goodness I had my own at home because nothing is open at 4 am in Minnesota. Considering how well behaved my son is and my husband was with him the entire time and to tell me he can’t be there at 12 in the morning. The one nurse I had telling me no and telling me not to have my new born on my chest because he shouldn’t be on his tummy Just a lot of little things I hated the experience. Glad it’s over I went home barely 2 days after c section I stayed 1 night and the next night was told my son had to go at midnight so I asked to be discharged after 1 and s half days after Magee surgery I didn’t want people taking care of me that had issues with my son and husband being there just felt strange and my main nurse I hope none gets her smh
My partner gave birth at Fairview Southdale. The doctors are great, but especially the nurses! We were there for a week on an induction and got to work with several of them. They were all hard-working, kind, knowledgeable, and empathetic. The postpartum care and information was wonderful. Our girl had to spend two days in the NICU, and she was in very competent and caring hands. They even had occupational therapists visit us several times, as it was our first baby, and the guidance they provided was amazing.
I had as positive an experience as one could have in the emergency room. On Tuesday May 23, I fell and fractured my ankle in 3 places, and sprained the other ankle I saw a physician within a reasonable time and got x-rays I was admitted the same night and was scheduled for orthopedic surgery the following day. Surgery went well. Because it is the Memorial Day weekend, I am waiting to be transported tomorrow to a care facility for physical therapy. No facility would admit me on the weekend. The staff have been wonderful for the most part. Like anyplace there were a couple I was not pleased with but not enough to color my thinking about the rest.
Great place if you want to get sit around then have an amature coke head ER doc act like you are faking it. I wouldn't take my dog to this hospital. Absolutely 0 compassion. Save yourself the waste of time and die at home with some dignity. You are MUCH better off avoiding this place like the plague.
Zero stars is not an option.. My husband went to the ER in congestive heart failure. He was going to be admitted.2:30 am. While waiting for a room, they hooked him up to and ecg, gave him Lasix. He disconnected himself to use the restroom and no one ever came to rehook his ecg or worse yet, even notice he wasn’t connected. At 11am he called the nurse to get an update on what was going on and the nurse had no idea who he was or why he was there. She obviously was not rounded in about patients. No one checked on him for 8.5 hours! He asked they give him his heart meds he takes daily and he missed his morning doses and was told they don’t give meds in the er!!! He’d have to wait until he was in a room. He’s in heart failure- was never checked on FOR HOURS, and treated as a problem when he asked for answers about his care. We contacted the patient ombudsman and went over the patient bill of rights- what didn’t happen with his care. They said they’d look into this and send a letter when they had answers.A letter…. no apology- but i’m sure we’ll get billed for the entire thing despite negligence and complete disregard for the fact he’s in heart failure. I’m glad he didn’t die there, because they wouldn’t have noticed. I understand the lack of staff and the burden on health care system right now, but his treatment or lack of it is inexcusable. Im sure this review won’t make any difference in how things are handled or managed there- but we won’t EVER be going there again
If I could give it zero stars, or less, I would. I got run over by a van in 2016 and lost the use of my left arm. They did nothing. I had to go to HCMC where they did a CAT scan and found out what was wrong. My arm is fine now. My girlfriend went there with an allergic reaction to something and again they didn't do anything, except prescribe an antibiotic that is clearly documented in her health records. She didn't realize it until she went to get it filled and the pharmacist saw that it is in her health records she is allergic to it and didn't feel comfortable filling it. Said the hospital should have known. She called and tried to get it switched, which the nurse said she had to come back in to get it switched. This was thru the same nurse she had a problem with. She called back two days later and talked to a different nurse, who got it switched in a matter of minutes. And the problem she had with the first nurse was when she wanted to use the phone to find out about transportation. There was no phone in the room and told her they didn't know what to do about it. I will never go there no matter what! I could be hurt on their doorstep and would go to a different hospital. They pick and choose who they want to help. Even told my girlfriend that she should go to HCMC!
They accepted my smoking, cancer ridden, cartoon addicted father. He had a heart attack while retrieving some groceries and cigarettes from his local black owned business, and they were kind enough to scoop him up. They gave him plenty of medications, due to his complications. Now he thinks he’s an intergalactic laser tag player. We will definitely be returning.
I would really advise people to keep away from the ER. These Nurses are really bad here. They were screaming at me for asking fo help for my son. They were belittling me and disgraceful. People like this should not have a license to practice in Minnesota. The hospital rooms are very dirty. My family member needed immediate help They told me to Shut up! Repulsive ER!
