Fidalgo Island Health Center, the office of Dr. James Bentz D.PSc. Dr. Bentz received his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree in 1984. He specializes in Neurological Integration, a system of healthcare that detects and corrects neurological signaling disruption between the brain and body. He also is trained in Multi-Therapeutic Health Coaching, which employs a variety of natural strategies to help people regain their health. At Fidalgo Island Health Center we believe that your body can heal itself if it is operating without interference. We are located in beautiful Anacortes, Washington, about 80 miles north of Seattle. Anacortes is the gateway to the spectacular San Juan Islands. Our small town is a peaceful and relaxing getaway.

I came in to the Fidalgo Island Health Center to see a doctor about on-going, long-Covid symptoms. After the very first session with Dr. O'Dwyer, I began getting a good and restful night's sleep. Also, the stiff, body aches I have had for a number of years now, all through my working years have disappeared, an unexpected outcome as a result of the kinesiology therapy sessions. Now, I work out in the garden for hours--spend as much time as I would like walking, shopping or whatever is at hand. My chronological age has not changed, but I feel 20 years younger in terms of strength and activity. Thank you. :
I first met Dr.Bentz when my black lab was diagnosed with lymphoma, in 2002. I'd been to a chemotherapy Vet clinic in Seattle the day before, with Clyde. I couldn't fathom putting my best friend through chemo. So drove Clyde home, crying the whole way. I immediately got on the phone, looking for naturopathic vet clinics. I just happened to try a human clinic. I was willing to try anything to help my dog. Dr.Bentz offered to help Clyde. He worked on Clyde through me. Clyde had stopped eating 3 days before that. Also had an extremely low energy level. Dr. Bentz found that Clydes pancreas was not functioning. He adjusted him, and gave him medicine to strengthen his pancreas. Within 2 days, Clyde was eating again, and he had more energy. I cancelled all the appointments I'd made with the chemo vet. Clydes local vet, put him on cortisone, and Dr.Bentz continued treating him. I was able to spend an extra 8 months with Clyde. By the way, thank you so much for taking time to help Clyde. That was one of the kindest gestures I've ever experienced...... 3 years later, I was in a car wreck, where I was rear ended. I ended up with whiplash. 4 days after the wreck, I could barely lift my feet to walk. I knew I wanted James to take care of my injury. He worked on me for a few months. My pain got better, but kept coming back. I asked him if he could check me for fibromyalgia. He wasn't certified to give me a diagnosis for fibromyalgia, but told me all the points he pressed on my body indicated I had it. I then spent a whole year of medical testing to determine I had fibromyalgia. He found it instantly. Medical doctors tested me by process of elimination. I would loved to have kept him as my doctor, but am now on disability, and am unable to afford office visits. I highly recommend Doctor Bentz though! He's an amazing Doctor, and human being. Thanks again Dr.Bentz!
This is a top-notch clinic! You can tell the staff here really care and are concerned about their patients. I received NIS and acupuncture treatments from the clinic's new practitioner, Nancy Palmer. She was incredibly friendly and professional. Can't recommend enough!
I have suffered from severe mold allergies for the past three years leaving me in bed for most of the time even a small moldy berry could set my allergies off and I would get extremely dizzy and had extreme head pressure and became very sensitive with food. One small exposure would result in me being in bed for weeks. I had an appointment with Dr. Peter O’Dwyer, and the results I got were nothing short of remarkable! He is very comfortable to work with and you can tell that he has your best interest at heart. My reactions to mold have gone down significantly to almost nothing and my food sensitivity is improving with each appointment. I am really excited for what the future holds for my health. NIS treatment exceeded my expectations and I’m so grateful for it! Highly recommended!
I’ve had two treatments from Dr. Peter O’Dwyer. Lower back pain and extremely low energy brought me in. His determination to healing is very apparent and very effective. I left his office feeling great and energetic. On my second visit I told Peter about a condition I’ve had for many years. No one has been able to diagnose it. Dr Bentz has been a lifesaver for me and a huge part of me making strides forward with my health. He is able to quickly catch onto things that are going on with my body and do the proper adjustments. I feel results very quickly and i have definitely had times where I would have been in crisis without his intervention. He and his staff are also very kind and supportive. I have recommended him several times to those with chronic issues.

He is my primary doctor and the one person I trust with my life and health. With a curious and keen mind, he is a life long learner who brings valuable new information to each session. His staff are wonderfully helpful about setting up appointments and getting you seen. They are supportive and committed to each patient which really helps when you are in need. They practice whole hearted medicine in a day and age when conventional medicine has gone astray of their original mandate. I know where I would be without Fidalgo Island Health Center and I never want to go there! I fully support and recommend this care team for any of your health needs.
My son was fully restored from concussion symptoms by NIS and Dr O'Dwyer. He had a dirt biking accident which resulted in a bad concussion. My son lost hearing, could not answer simple questions, was zoned out and was not himself at times and angry at others. I had heard about NIS before and wanted to help my son in whatever way possible, so we called Fidalgo Island Health Center. After the appointment with Dr O 'Dwyer, my son could hear, could respond to instruction, answer questions, started up very deep philosophical conversations the moment we were in the car, and became his normal energetic self. Even said things like "mom, I can figure out what you are saying now!" I came into the clinic with a shell of my boy and walked out with him vibrant and engaging and on the journey to healing fully! Aside from the healing I saw in my boy, the setting is serene and beautiful and the Doctor and staff are kind and good at helping you understand what is going on. I am so grateful for this practice, this doctor and this clinic!
I have been going to chiropractors for years for my back pain.I woke up one morning and could hardly get out of bed.I had to finish a project I was working on and had to go to work. My regular chiropractor could not get me in for a few days. I contacted Fidalgo Island Health Center and was able to get in right away with Dr. Peter O'Dwyer.He was very thorough and explained everything to me during my appointment. I saw Peter O’Dwyer after days of excruciating pain. He listened carefully, asked a few questions and within minutes correctly diagnosed and treated my condition. My pain dropped by 85% in minutes and I feel better generally than I have in years. Went for a couple mile walk yesterday and heading out today for a longer one. He also introduced me to cold laser treatment that I am focusing on my knees. Without this I either wouldn’t be walking or I would be in line for knee replacement. So grateful!
