The purpose of this page is to communicate with the public the happenings of the Five Mile Point Fire Company. Fire scenes, fire prevention tips and other news will be updates on a regular basis.
The Five Mile Point Fire Company was incorporated in 1950. The district that we cover has shown great residential, commercial and industrial growth. Some of the industry that fill our two industrial parks include Frito Lay, Felchar Manufacturing, and L3 Communications along with several trucking terminals, two large truck stops, a chemical warehouse and several other commercial businesses
The Five Mile Point Fire Company provides primary fire protection to businesses and the residents in our fire district, which is located in the Town of Kirkwood. Kirkwood, located in the Southern Tier of NY just east of the City of Binghamton and borders Pennsylvania to the South. The Town of Kirkwood approximately 30 square miles and is protected by two fire departments. Kirkwood Fire Co. covers the Southern end of town while the Five Mile Point Fire Co. covers the Northern end. Our district borders the Towns of Windsor, Conklin, Colesville, Fenton, Dickinson and the City of Binghamton. Our protection area consists of Rural farm land, housing sub divisions, several large apartment complexes, a commercial business district, shopping centers, motels and large industrial manufacturing facilities along with approximately 16 miles of interstate highways (both Interstate 81 and 86.) We are dispatched by Broome County Office of Emergency Services 911 center on low band channel (33.90) and operations are on channels 2 (33.94) and channel 3 (33.98). Five Mile Point provides mutual aid to any department in Broome, Delaware and Susquehanna (Pa.) Counties as part of the County’s Mutual Aid agreement.
Our goals remain the same today as they were in 1950 and that is to provide highly trained, committed firefighters who are ready to respond at any time to protect the lives and property of the residents and businesses of the Town of Kirkwood.
