FoMu is an option for vegan ice cream, using coconut ice cream instead of cows milk. This is probably also a good choice if someone is lactose intolerant. Service: Service was friendly. I asked if strawberry rhubarb was tart and they offered a sample to let me try for myself. For me personally, I probably would have enjoyed strawberry more but they only had strawberry rhubarb. Flavors: The Grasshopper flavor is creamy and also delicious if you like mint ice cream with soft chocolate cookie pieces. It is a very strong flavor and I couldn't tell that it's coconut ice cream at all. The cookie pieces also hide the texture of the coconut ice cream. Honestly, I don't think I could tell that this was not the standard milk ice cream, especially since it was so good I just devoured it. :D I didn't enjoy the vanilla bean at all and didn't finish it. To me, it tasted very strongly of vanilla extract more than the typical vanilla or vanilla bean ice cream flavor. I think I could also tell it is coconut ice cream. I could also tell the ice cream isn't as naturally creamy because it just looks different and less creamy and smooth. Atmosphere: There are just two small tables to sit around and some comfortable cushioned chairs around each.
Some of the best non dairy ice cream I’ve tried. Their flavors are fun and inventive with plenty of options. Some of their textures are better than others - the coffee was a little icy, and the cake batter kind of gluey, but the grasshopper was great. The portions are generous and they let you do split scoops to try more than one flavor per scoop. I had hoped to try their baked goods but they didn’t have any fresh ones out when I visited the brownies and seven layer bars were still half frozen. The service was not great, the person behind the counter did not seem like they wanted to be there and was super apathetic. It left me with a mixed experience - the ice cream makes me want to go back, but the lack of friendliness definitely doesn’t. I’ll check how JP Licks’ vegan ice creams compare and see if that’s a better experience.
Just really good vegan ice cream. I’d been a few times to grab some cookies and had tasted a few ice cream flavors, but I actually got a scoop for the first time the other night. Dense and creamy, not too sweet, full of flavor. I only have good things to say about the baked goods as well. They’ve also made it really easy to read what has nuts, gluten or soy through simple icons. No complaints, I’ll be back :-
My lactose intolerant SO loves this place because it gave him the chance to eat ice cream again! Yes the base is coconut milk and to be honest, I couldn't tell unless I truly thought long and hard about it. Perhaps the flavors depend on how strong the other flavoring is. I ordered cookies and cream and he got sweet lavender. TBH yes it's expensive but you are getting quality product. If you're lactose intolerant, it'll be well worth the money you spend! I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie. Perhaps it was an older batch, but I didn't enjoy it all that much. However, I'm always down to try other baked goodies when I go back!
Pretty tasty. Couple downsides though. Ice cream is a bit gummy for me and makes it quite heavy. Staff pressed the 18% tip button themselves before turning the screen around which was a bit cheeky.
5 stars given for excellent product and great service. Did not have coffee there, but their desserts and Icecream is top top top. A must stop if you are in the area. **Does not take AMEX
The strawberry ice cream is my favorite and staff are really nice. Found my new spot! :
I wanted to like it, and the store was very nice, clean, well setup. But I just couldn’t buy the Fo part of FoMu. Great concept, but if you want ice cream you can do better.
The best ice cream in Boston! The scoops are well priced, I usually get the Mini because I feel like the complexity of the flavors lends itself to smaller portions. The flavors vary with the season, but they do have a few evergreens, like cookies and cream. The cakes are a bit more expensive than the scoops, but also good. Allergens are clearly listed. Oh, and it also happens to be vegan!
I loved Key Lime Pie with coconut and chocolate cookie dough combination today! Super tasty and creamy! Friendly atmosphere! Highly recommended!
