I am a self taught cook who like to share her talents with the world. I learned to cook early on with two wonderful grandmothers and amazing people in my family who sparked a passion in me.
Since I can remember my Grandmother Maria would pull a chair to the stove and have me stand on it. I would flip tortillas, mix the beans or she would just have me stand there watching her. She would say that women need to feed their family so she had to show me what to do. She was very old fashioned that way. Then there was my Grandma Teodula OMG her tortillas and biscuits were to die for....then she would make this fideo with beans all soupy like that's my type of home cooking.
My favorite memory is when we would make tamales...the family would gather around and talk the grown ups would drink "special" coffee which we all knew had whiskey in it LOL. I miss my Grandmas so much...but they left me with lasting memeories and passed on recipes and skills to me that today my children, my family cousins and Aunts a like ask me to cook for them. And that is what its all about. The kitchen is my favorite place to be it holds the best memories in my life.
