Supporting safe food production by developing and delivering educational programs assisting the food industry in complying with preventive controls rules.
The Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) is a broad-based public-private alliance of key industry, academia and government stakeholders. It was established in late 2011 by a grant from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to Illinois Institute of Technology’s Institute for Food Safety and Health (IIT IFSH).
The mission of FSPCA is to support safe food production by developing and delivering educational programs that assist the food industry in complying with the preventive controls regulations that will be promulgated in response to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
The FSPCA is managed by the Executive and Steering Committees. These committees are comprised of members from key stakeholder organizations representing food industry associations, extension educators and regulators. Working groups composed of subject matter experts from the food industry, trade associations, regulatory agencies and academia perform specific assignments, tasks and activities to fulfill the mission of the Alliance.
The mission of the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance is to support safe food production for the U.S. market by developing a core curriculum and corresponding technical educational materials about food safety risk-reduction preventive controls that comply with relevant federal regulations. The FSPCA will develop materials for a variety of delivery modes, including classroom-based face-to-face, hands-on and distance-learning modules and hybrid mechanisms of delivery of the training to the industry.
