Fort Harrison State Park

About

The official Indiana DNR Facebook Page.

Description

Fort Harrison State Park is a state park for many seasons for many reasons. Patrons may enjoy visiting the park all year round, especially in winter since Fort Harrison features the Sledding Hill, one of the biggest in this area. Spring is the season to walk with the woodland wildflowers in full bloom across the park. Summer is the perfect time for a canoe trip down Fall Creek, the major water feature that runs through the north side of Fort Harrison. Autumn brings warm, sunny days and breathtaking fall colors to this, the last forested corner left in Marion County. Enjoy The Fort Golf Course and for an overnight trip, stay at the Fort Harrison Inn and Conference Center.

We went for a family fishing day and enjoyed the day. The trails were pretty clean and both the lake and duck pond were beautiful! The duck pond is a walk! It was very peaceful. There was a small playground area when heading towards the lakes and we did see plenty of picnic areas. The restrooms were all a bit spaced apart so it helps to know where they are prior to starting your hike.
Barry exceeded our expectations with great customer service. We were on a trip to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary and he put us in a room that was quiet and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed seeing the historic homes as we walked the loop. The breakfast was fresh and hot. It would have been a 5-star experience, but there were some maintenance issues with the bathroom. We did address these with the front desk before we left.
Fort Harrison State Park is an ideal destination for a delightful weekend day trip. Whether you're seeking a peaceful picnic spot, a leisurely hike with friends or family, or a place to give your furry friends a satisfying workout, this park has it all. It offers a serene atmosphere where you can unwind and spend quality time with your loved ones, leaving behind the stresses of your daily routine to relax and rejuvenate. During our visit, we dedicated more than half a day to exploring the park, embarking on a calming hike to the creek. We enjoyed a delightful picnic and spent the rest of the day sitting on the banks of the small lake, finding solace in the tranquil surroundings. Without a doubt, it has become one of our cherished spots in the Indianapolis area. Playground: Kids will have ample space to play here. Restrooms: Clean and tidy. Dog-friendliness: Best workout space for your dogs amidst the nature. Picnic area: Available
Hiking the trails by Fall Creek took me back to when I was a little kid running around the Active Duty Ft. Harrison. Great paths both dirt and paved so anyone can enjoy the outdoors. Several pavilions and grill areas so it's perfect for an family party. Get yourself a season pass and enjoy it all summer.
Beautiful park! I love visiting this park. I take my dog it's 7 dollars per vehicle to enter and they have a lake you can fish in with a fishing license. You can purchase a fishing license at the park entrance. Very clean and I always feel safe here. You don't have people playing there music loud or have to worry about people doing questionable things in the parking lot.
Beautiful countryside filled with wildlife and biking trails. If you want to get away from the noise of city life, this is a wonderful place for a long walk or a picnic. There are several nice pavilions for larger groups. Check out the exhibits in the Visitor Center to learn more about the rich history of the park. We enjoyed talking to Patty, the park ranger, and watching the birds feed near the visitor center. It was too hot for hiking, but we hope to return to try out one of the many trails in this park Update: we visited again on 5/21/23 and had a wonderful hike on the trails. The weather was perfect. The park is very scenic. The trails are well marked and well maintained. There were many people enjoying the trails on bike and on foot. This is a beautiful place. I am so glad we decided to hike at Fort Ben today.
It's a great place to walk and be at peace I got work full time and college and got all minds of meeting so nice to take a break and breathe
15 years of attending Fort Harrison and unfortunately it's going down hill. Lack of maintenance, amenities, staff, and major repairs are needed everywhere. My wife and children have enjoyed this park however, so much has been slowly been taken away. I hope the state and park officials understands this and step in to bring this park back to life.
Beautiful state park with a really nice paved walking trail for my dad to enjoy on his scooter. He's 94 & has hiked these trails even before it became a state park, but he can no longer walk long distances so the paved trail allows him to still enjoy a trip on a nature trail.
Went here last weekend. This park is beautiful! A great place for an intense workout and for a nice little picnic
