Organic farm working to inspire transformational change within Indy’s food system by providing food justness for low-income families.
Indy Urban Acres is an eight-acre organic urban farm that supplies low-income Hoosiers with healthy fruits and vegetables. The site will also serve as educational resource for user groups, community organizations and Indy Parks youth programming to learn the value of the urban gardens. The farm is a result of the unique partnership between the Indianapolis Parks Foundation, the Indianapolis Parks Department and Gleaners Food Bank aimed at ensuring that families in need have access to healthy foods.
Indy Urban Acres, a project of the Indianapolis Parks Foundation, is a collection of four organic farms used to empower and educate people by providing equitable access to free, high quality produce. Since 2011, Indy Urban Acres has grown into a multi-disciplinary farm that works to inspire transformational change within Indy’s food system by providing food justness for low-income families, educating thousands of youth through tours and farm-to-plate workshops, providing community engagement to thousands of volunteers and groups, and teaching teens valuable job skills.
