Fort Lauderdale Airport station

Description

Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport at Dania Beach, or more commonly Fort Lauderdale Airport, is a Tri-Rail commuter rail station in Dania Beach, Florida, located just west of Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport. The station is located at Gulfstream Way, just west of the confluence of I-95 and Griffin Road (SR 818). Opened on August 14, 2000, the current station replaced the original and now-demolished Fort Lauderdale Airport station 0.7 miles/1.1 km to the south, which operated from 1989 through 2000 and which had previously served as the Dania Seaboard Air Line Railway station. When the Tri-Rail system was first under construction, the station was located directly west of the airport's main runway, west of and next to I-95. However, concerns by the Federal Aviation Administration about the height of the platform when planes were on approach prevented the station from ever being opened and moved to the Tigertail Avenue location. Remnants of both defunct stations remain adjacent to the tracks.Transit connectionsBCTAlternative modes of transportSFEC Shuttle – Broward College and Nova Southeastern University

Cheapest way to go to the airports. The rail service runs like clock work. I would not hesitate to get on a tri rail train to go to any of the area airports.
Very clean updated TRI-Rail station. No bathrooms. No overnight parking.
Whenever I'm in South Florida I use this station to get to my flight back home to NY. Tri-Rail is super affordable and comfortable. I would love to see more service on the weekend.
Very busy station, hoping the signage and the ticket machines get updated soon.
Even though I like it, yesterday May 29, Sunday morning, 9:57 northbound train, the announcement over the speaker phone was wrong! It said that northbound train would arrive at track #1. While the correct was #2.
Not easy to get an airport shuttle to the Tri Rail terminal at night When we arrived at the Ft. Lauderdale airport, we intended to take the Tri Rail to Miami where we'd booked a hotel. Everyone had said it was a simple process but you have to get a shuttle from the airport to the Tri Rail airport terminal, so it's not that simple. It's even more complicated if you arrive at night. Our flight arrived in the evening. When we asked airport staff how and where to get the shuttle, they directed us out the door to the ground transportation area. It was pretty dark out there and didn't feel safe. One shady guy kept trying to talk us into riding in his car. We didn't know if he was with a car service or a shuttle service but he seemed like someone we should avoid. We'd been told that the Tri Rail terminal shuttle arrived on a regular schedule. Apparently, the schedule isn't as convenient for nighttime travelers. We pulled up the shuttle schedule and after a while, we realized we might have a lengthy, uncomfortable wait. Eventually , we called an Uber to take us to Miami. Don't do that unless you want to add an extra hundred or so to your transportation budget.
Trirail station with parking, shuttle, and a lot of space!!
I used this station to get to MIA Airport. I arrived at Fort Lauderdale Airport and took a free bus on the lower level to get to the station, I waited about 15 minutes for the bus and aproximately 15 minutes more to get to the Tri-Rail station. You buy the ticket at automated machines, you have to choose the station you want to get to and it will tell you how much to pay, you can pay with credit cards or cash, real easy. For me it was MIA Airport and the cost was $3.75. After that I waited for about a half hour for the delayed train to arrive. In Miami you arrive at the rental car building, there you take a very short train that takes you to the airport. Overall a good experience.
I wanted to try the Bright Line from FLL airport to WPB station near Hilton & Convention center. Lack of clear signs. Unfortunately is was a challenging experience at best. Bus driver could not get to the assigned pickup point so he passed us to other bus stop location with cruise buses. Being outside other buses made it dangerous and difficult. People were anxious and mobbed bus to get on. People wanted in back door which is common for many buses and driver yelled at people. people had great difficulty with suitcases getting on. Much chaos pushing and shoving. Racks are hard to use. I am 6 feet and strong and I had an issues with my big suitcase in bottom rack getting stuck. Them when bus stopped at train station more chaos and people got off.At station people had problems with credit card and ticket . No one there to hep. Again lack of clear sings for first time new people . Had to ask others for help. Not most efficient place for bicycles and luggage blocking doors. Then lack of announcement at many stops along the way. Did not ride back from WPB to FLL to avoid hassles.
Update There has been a drastic decline in users of the shuttle bus during weekends and there is no surprise why. You would have to have the patience of Job to wait for the shuttle bus to arrive at FLL. Passengers will rightly get frustrated waiting for the bus driver to return from the 10 minutes ride from the FLL airport back to the Airport Tr-rail station. You have to wonder why is the driver spending over an hour at the Airport Tri-rail station instead of returning back to the airport in a timely manner to pick up passengers. To make matters worse, instead of 3 stops at FLL, one of the stops at FLL airport have been eliminated thereby causing more inconvenience to passenger who now have to walk long distances to and from their arrival/departure gates. The shuttle from the Airport Tri-rail station to FLL airport on weekends is not working. No wonder many have found more convenient options to get to and from FLL instead of using the shuttle. 2 years ago Convenient and cheap way to get to and from the FLL airport. But, the shuttle bus from FLL to the TRI-rail station is always so crowded by the time it gets to the last pickup stop at FLL airport, so some drivers won't even bother to stop to pick up those passengers waiting so long to get to the train station. So, bigger shuttle busses are needed to accommodate so many using this airport service.
