I’m a very patient person who often goes out of their way to give artisans the benefit of the doubt and I really wanted for a small business like Frame Fixers to come through but it has now been close to 5 months since I sent in a pair of vintage frames for restoration and new lenses and I still haven’t had the glasses returned to me. The videos connected to the business on YouTube and shown on the Frame Fixers website really gave me a sense of comfort when it came to sending in the frames and that comfort level only increased when I spoke with August Cornell over the phone and got an estimate for the work as well as a timeframe for repair and return shipment of about a week. I happily provided payment information and thought to myself “wow, what service!” But now having reading more reviews and the stories of others I’m seeing a pattern of dishonesty that is very disconcerting. I feel bad for Frame Fixers. I know that the work involved in repairing and restoring glasses is probably not the easiest and more than likely very time consuming in certain cases so I was quite hesitant to write negatively about the business but it’s pretty ridiculous at this point that I haven’t gotten a solid answer as to why the glasses I was promised back in February still haven’t been returned. I would not feel a need to complain if Frame Fixers just communicated honestly with me instead of dodging phone calls, ignoring emails and giving me the runaround. They clearly do not have the staff necessary to carry out the promises they make. I still want to believe that they are not just flat out scamming consumers and that one day sooner than later my glasses will arrive in the mail in which case I would certainly update this review but after reaching out multiple times I must admit that I lose what little hope I have left with each passing day. Update 7/11/19: It’s now been 15 days since I wrote Frame Fixers an email requesting that my frames be returned and that a refund be issued if the work outlined in our previous correspondence had not been completed and I have yet to receive the frames or a response. Update 10/15/19: I received my glasses back from the Frame Fixers after 7 months of waiting. I was excited by the prospect of opening it up and finding a restored pair of glasses that I could now cherish. For a moment it even appeared as though this might be what was happening when I found that the frames were not in their original case but a new one and that they had actually been fitted with new lenses! Unfortunately my excitement was pretty quickly overcome with disappointment when I inspected the glasses closer. It’s just not good work. The lenses have really awkward and deep cut grooves all around the edges that make them look pretty goofy in the hooped rims. Also, one of the rims was clearly broken at some point, probably when the new lens was put in. Instead of remaking the now broken rim out of clear Zylonite as August Cornell had outlined in our first email exchange it appears as though he just glued the rim back together and not very carefully. It is crooked and there is excess dried adhesive around parts of that particular lens and rim. I think this might have been done on purpose so that the option of returning the prescription lenses for a refund would be difficult. To top it all off I have a strong feeling that the right and left lenses are mixed up. I could tell right away when I tried the glasses on that something is not right. This was pretty much confirmed when I flipped the glasses upside down and noticed something more like what I see with my other glasses that have the same prescription. To sum up, its been 7 months of waiting and hoping since I sent in my glasses and not much to show for it unfortunately. What a let down my whole experience with Frame Fixers has been.
Do NOT recommend! I sent my son's Oakley sunglasses in for repair. The stem broke at the hinge. He gave me an estimate of $85. I sent a check. It took way longer that he said it would and when the glasses finally made it back to me, they were so bent that they could not be worn. I emailed him and told him that they were bent and not wearable. He said he would send me a money order to ship them back to him for realignment but I never received it. I emailed him again and he hasn't responded. Save your money and DON'T FALL PREY TO THIS like I did.
I was pleased with this work. While replacing a lens in Ray-Bans I inherited, I stripped a screw and could not remove it myself. It took a couple of weeks between my sending the glasses and getting them back. The work was excellent, prices reasonable, communication before and after the job was also very good.
I'm sorry to see such negative reviews for such a fantastic business! I have a very special and sentimental pair of sunglasses that have a unique wooden frame, the screws holding the stems are also unique and there is no other place on the planet that will replace the screws. I have shipped my glasses to them twice to have new screws made. I'm really not sure how this business makes a profit at all considering how little I paid to have my glasses fixed, but I am so happy they exist. To all potential customers reading these reviews - I highly recommend following the instructions on their website when sending in your glasses. If you have any questions, email them and they will get right back to you with answers!
This guy tried to rob me, honestly I didn't think it at first but after reading reviews and trying to contact this guy for 11 days it was evident. Emailed August F Cornell to see if they would be able to repair my vintage neostyle frames. He replied quickly and said he can, and ship them as soon as I could. After he took delivery I emailed and called around 20 times with no luck. I contacted the Syracuse police dept. These were my late father's frames. They the contacted Mr.Cornell who stated he didnt have anything from me after about 5 minutes he says he found it and would contact me within 24 hrs. He sent my frames out luckily and sent me a very nasty email. Mr Cornell please understand that this was nothing personal I didn't need or want any trouble if you were to work on your communication skills you would probably do better in this business This guy is a crook straight up and down
Terrible. Played email tag and I was not very nice in the last couple. Quote said they would replace my broken hinge on my gauge 8 Oakley's and color it to match. Instead I finally get them back 4 months later with a hack welding job on the broken hinge, off center. I have a family machine shop and could've done a better job myself. Said they were going to refund my CC 3 weeks ago but still haven't seen it.
I sent my Oakley Ti-wire sunglasses to this business in Feb 2016. It's Oct 2018, and I still don't have them back. I have asked several times for an explanation as to why this is taking so long, but I never get a satisfactory explanation. Beware of sending anything to this company. Review Update; July 09, 2019 I am editing my review to address the the owner's response to my review. I made two email request for my glasses to be returned. The first on Oct 23, 2018 and the second on Dec 01, 2018. Neither request was answered, nor were the glasses returned.
Stay away from this business. The person doing the work have 0 skills. They actually ruined my vintage sunglasses. The owner could be very very rude. Honestly, don’t give a try, you will regret it. Updated July 10, 2019 I noticed that August responded to my review. I did requested refund and he said he will refund me. It’s been more than a year and I am still waiting for the refund. Do not trust him or his business.
I guess I've had a good run. 47 years before being scammed. Supplied a pair of Oakley Half Metal and paid nearly the original price to get fixed. The attitude in the communication before and after making payment is the give-away. I guess at that profit rate you can run a pretty good online campaign. Take care August.
Terrible service. Just like many of the other people who left reviews, they took months to answer emails and then send my glasses back. I was relieved I had received them but then I opened the box and to my disappointment they did a terrible job with them. I sent them in to get them fitted with spring hinges and what I got were a pair of crooked eyeglasses, a really bad welding job, the hinges don't work... it's just - terrible. Don't use this business, they will RUIN your glasses!
