OUR COMMUNITY
Franklin County is an historic, scenic, and progressive area. It is an unequaled melding of wide open spaces, pastoral bluegrass farms, rolling countryside, clear streams and rivers, historic buildings, a stimulating political climate, and small town suburbia all rolled into one. Located just 25 minutes west of Lexington, 45 minutes east of Louisville, and 80 miles south of Cincinnati, the community combines rural/suburban living with "big city" convenience. Frankfort, the largest city in Franklin County, is the seat of both state and county government, which offers the district the chance to be in close contact with state and local officials.

Franklin County has a population of 48,285 residents as reported by the Census Bureau in 2000. Approximately 51% of the population is female and 49% is male. The area's ethnic makeup is nearly 84% white, 10% African-American and about 6% other races (Hispanic, American Indian, Asian, etc.). Approximately 44% of the total population falls into the school-age range (5-19). Nearly 25% of families are two parent families and 88% of the children live with at least one natural-born or adoptive parent.

Frankfort's mayor is Gippy Graham. The city is served by four city commissioners, and employs 56 police officers. Ted Collins is the Franklin County Judge-Executive who works with six county magistrates. Local school policy is determined by The Franklin County Public Schools Board of Education. The Board is composed of the following six members: Chrissy Jones, Superintendent; Michelle New, Chairman; Doug Crowe, Vice-Chairman; William Cofield; BeLinda Henson; and Jennifer Grisham-Brown. School board members are elected for two-year terms by a general election.
