Keep showing support for the park by visiting, telling friends, planning an event at the park or becoming involved with the Friends of Schodack Island
In 2010, with Schodack Island State Park facing closure due to state budget cuts, a group of park users came together to support the park.After our efforts to save the park were successful, we looked for other ways to help. Our mission is to support the park by working with park staff to provide volunteers, develop programs and events, and to provide funds for park needs. We organize volunteers for activities including park clean ups, trail maintenance, ice skate rental, and flower planting. We sponsor programs and events. In 2012 we raised over $7,000 for an event to celebrate the park’s 10th anniversary.
Friends of Schodack Island State Park, Inc. was organized under the New York State Not-for-profit Corporation Law in 2010. We are governed by a board of directors elected by the membership. The Internal Revenue Service has determined that our Friends group is a public charity and exempt from Federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). We are registered as a charity with the NYS Attorney General. Our board currently meets four times a year, in February, May, August and November. Please see the meetings page for the schedule. Meetings are always open, members and the general public are encouraged to attend. If you have a particular interest or expertise in recreation, outdoor sports, natural history, boating, fundraising, design, construction, or other areas of relevance to the park, or if you just want to be a contributor, we welcome your help.
