Memberships
Established in 1982, the Friends of the Abington Community Library is a volunteer-based organization designed to support the Library. Fundraisers enable the Friends to contribute to the library financially. Money raised by the Friends is used to purchase materials, equipment, and for facility upgrades not covered by the library's budget. A Board of Directors oversees the group's activities and makes allocation decisions based upon the library's needs.
The Friends sponsor two Book Sales a year, one in April and one in October, at the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church. Thousands of books, media, and more are available at low prices. The Library Teen Leadership Committee sponsors a bake sale as well. Friends are encouraged to help with set-up the night before the sale and with a current membership in good standing may make purchases at that time. If you are not a member you may join that night. Donations are accepted year round of books for all ages (excluding damaged, moldy material, encyclopedias, and READER'S DIGEST CONDENSED BOOKS), DVDs, CDs, and books on tape.
The purpose of the Friends is: to maintain an association of persons interested in books and libraries; to focus public attention on library services, facilities and needs; to stimulate gifts of books, media, desirable collections, endowments, and bequests.
