Friends of the Central Library raises money to support the Central Library through the Rosamond Gifford Lecture Series.
Friends of the Central Library was established in 1995 due to a shortage of funds for the Onondaga County Libraries. The original idea to set up an author series fundraiser took off, creating our world-renowned Rosamond Gifford Lecture Series. The Lecture Series brings six talented authors to the Syracuse Crouse Hinds Theater-Mulroy Civic Center every year. Since 1997, FOCL has donated $437,000 to the Onondaga County Public Library for collection materials and programs.
The mission of the Friends of the Central Library is to champion the Central Library as a vital community resource. Through fundraising and public advocacy, we enhance the excellence of the library and its capacity to serve the community.
