Since 1950 Friends of the Dallas Public Library has raised funds and advocated for the Dallas Public Library system.
March 13,1950 - Friends of the Dallas Public Library (FODPL) founded by a group of 23 citizens determined to hold the City of Dallas accountable to expand and improve the Dallas Public Library system.
October 1951 - Friends present the City of Dallas with a new bookmobile to increase delivery of library services to under-served neighborhoods
1970- FoDPL begins acquiring rare and fine treasures including examples of book arts from ancient beginnings such as papyrus sheets and clay tablets to modern fine presses. These acquisitions served as the foundation for the Dallas Public Library’s Rare and Fine Book Collection.
2015- FoDPL celebrates 65 years of support for the Dallas Public Library system. Our work continues to be relevant as libraries remain at the forefront of providing free access to information. Please join us as we continue our mission.
2016 - FoDPL partners with Dallas Public Library to present the Dallas Book Festival, featuring over 100 national, regional and local authors with 4,000 in attendance. Also, partnering with Parkland Hospital, FoDPL launched Books For Dallas Babies, which provides a copy of the bilingual book Read To Me/Vamos a Leer, to every new baby born at Parkland.
Since 1950, Friends of the Dallas Public Library exists to support the mission of the Dallas Public Library system in its delivery of resources, services and information to the Dallas community.
