Fine art and craft gallery committed to bringing high quality fine art to Somerville. We take pride in supporting emerging and established artists, and offering a venue for friends and neighbors to experience, connect with, and invest in the arts.
Located at the heart of Somerville's growing Arts District, Gallery on Division is a contemporary fine art and craft gallery committed to bringing high quality fine art to the community. We take pride in supporting emerging and established artists, and offering a venue for friends and neighbors to experience, connect with, and invest in the arts.
Gallery founder Ian Cairl grew up immersed in the arts. His mother, a fine artist herself, practiced and communed with locally and internationally known artists. After studying art in France and New York City, she settled in Neshanic Station and became a member of the Printmaking Council of New Jersey, the Somerset Art Association, and the Hunterdon Art Center. His father, a true renaissance man and NYC beatnik, performed in off broadway musicals, managed theater companies, cut gemstones , played piano and worked in stained glass, among other various and eccentric hobbies and jobs.
Decades of work as a designer and craftsman has only bolstered Ian's commitment to supporting art and craft, and both emerging and experienced artists. His children have all embraced the arts and play various roles in the gallery and the family's other Somerville establishment, Three Hearts Home, which also features handcrafted work by independent designers and makers across the US and fair trade artisans around the globe.
Opening in September 2017, Gallery on Division aims to become a hub of the growing arts community in Somerville. In honor of his parents, his family, and artists and craftspeople like himself, Ian invites you to join him in experiencing and supporting the arts, and cultivating a rich creative community in Somerville.
