This page is to keep everyone updated on the events Garberville Theatre will be holding this coming Spring-Summer in honor of it's 80th Anniversary.
The Garberville Theater is a long lasting part of history in the Garberville-Redway area. For 80 years it has brought entertainment, including movies(or course), musical shows, and may other performances, to the community. Just walking into the place you get a taste of its vibrant history.
As of late something has gone astray at the Garberville Theater. It is on the brink of shutting down and closing. New advancements in the movie business have put the film projector in the theater out of date. We cannot show screenings of the latest and greatest movies because they are all made for digital projectors, nothing is made in film anymore. Because of this inconvenience the Theater must purchase and install a state of the arc digital projector. The cost of which is around $60,000.
To help fundraise money and save our beloved theater we created a group called the Garberville Youth Theater Company, GYTC for short. The group is comprised of teens from all around the area who want to make a difference in the community. The group is run and managed by the teens themselves. The goal of the GYTC is to renovate, promote, perform, and save. First we are fixing up the theater and adding our own flare to it. There will be a brick patio outside, along with a lot of new interior decorations. Secondly the GYTC has taken it upon them selves to promote the theater in any way they can. Whether that be setting up live radio visits with KMUD, posting events posters everywhere we can, or creating and maintaining a working facebook page. Thirdly the GYTC is planning, creating, and putting on several events to attract people to the theater. We are hosting and performing at several events a week at the Garberville Theater such as Open Mic, Comedy Night, Open Jam, and a Call Of Duty Tournament.
The Garberville Youth Theater Company was created with one intent: to save an integral piece of the community, the Garberville Theater.
