I really enjoy staying in this community. It’s a garden style condo with many beautifully planted trees and flowers. There is also a short trail along the creek that residents can take a walk. The location is also pretty good and just nearby Wagmans and McLean metro station. The pool has reopened and is beautiful, and the gym is also well equipped. The only complaint so far might be the insufficient noise isolation e.g., hearing the footsteps upstairs or when the rain drops hitting the walls. Overall, I would recommend this community for people who want to rent or buy a condo nearby McLean/Tysons.
I used to own two units at the Gates of McLean for years.Even though the community is well situated, I had to sell both of my units due to the unprofessional and deteriorating management. There is an absence of accountability system.Parking is a nightmare among other poor services. Unfortunately, I don’t recommend buying there.
I lived here for over 3 years and loved it! The location is super convenient, and the neighborhood is very quiet. The amenities were great - the gym was decent. Didn't use the pool or the sauna but had heard great things about it. The office changed the rules about parking over a year ago, which has greatly improved the parking situation - I didn't have a reserved spot but was always able to find a spot to park. I also had good experience with the condo management office. They were very quick to respond and easy to work with. Great value for what I got!
I recently moved out after 6 years as a renter in this complex. Some issues with the complex are not within building management's control, but you should be aware of these issues regardless. 1. There has been constant construction for the last 3 years nearby. This has resulted in jarring noise that can be heard in my apartment while wearing headphones. This became so bad that I rented a private office I work remotely. 2. The pool was closed for the entire year due to covid, but other apartment complexes I visited during the same time kept their pools open. 3. Although this is supposedly a gated community, the gates were not active for the better part of the last two years. The new gates don't keep pedestrians out, they are now only meant for cars. This is more of an inconvenience now and really doesn't help at all. 4. The elevator in my building seemed to break about every 3 weeks. Unfortunately, it broke on my move-out day and I had to cary everything down 3 flights of stairs. Positive things: 1. Parking has become more available as another small lot was added to the front entrance. 2. The location is convenient since you're right next to the silver line metro. 3. Landscaping is well maintained
This is from the point of view of a renter. I lived here for 4 years and loved it. It is in a good neighborhood and the people who live at the Gates are all professionals, so you won't run into "undesirable" people if you know what I mean. The premises are clean and it is gated, which makes it safer. It is not true that guest parkings are $100. Each unit comes with at least one parking spot and you get visitor parking passes for your guests; I honestly don't know where that other person got that information. Some of the units have garage parking at no additional cost which is awesome. There is a lot of construction going around, but I don't mind it because you are close to EVERYTHING, the rent prices are really affordable considering what you get. These are condos, which is a plus because you won't have to deal with a nasty management company who wants to charge you for every little thing like sewer, water, parking, etc. You deal with the unit's owner and work with each other on how you want your lease arranged. After being out of the area for a couple of years due to a job assignment, I'm coming back to the Gates because I loved living there.
Living at the Gates of McLean is like dating a super model but finding out she has herpes 6 months in. On the surface it's amazing, amenities are great, hallways are beautifully repainted, location is the tatas, but then you begin to notice a few things that you can't shake and no matter how perfect the girl - every few months you gotta order valtrex. My biggest grievance? It has to be the super thin walls/floors where every time the: - light footsteps above can be heard; - toilet flushes; - urine hits the toilet bowl water if standing up; - shower is turned on; - dropping of the hand soap in the bathtub; - jubilant shout and sneeze; - cabinet doors slamming; - knife chopping on the kitchen countertop; and - piano is pounded on. If you see a listing at the Gates of McLean, then run far away. Your mental health will thank you later. Only reason I am giving this community a 2-Star instead of 1-Star is because my property is a cash cow in a prime location.
I'm not sure why the reviews are so bad of this community. I see cleaners every day making sure the common areas are spotless. The maintenance team is always fixing burnt out bulbs and other issues. The HOA is always working on upgrading the condos and amenity spaces. Each condo gets two guest parking passes yes, there's a fee if you lose them on top of the reserved spots that come with the condo. This community is quiet and the neighbors are friendly. You can walk to the McLean metro. I enjoy living here.
This place is the worst condo I have lived in, in my 22+ years of living all over the world. The management are ridiculous and the rooms here are the worst. Leaking faucets, ac units, constant noise from noisy neighbors are just a few of the many problems here. Stay away!
If you do not have friends or anyone over at your apartment, this place is okay. There is no parking after 6pm unless you have an assigned spot and there is no street parking within a mile. The walls are paper thin--luckily I have a quiet neighbor, otherwise I would move out ASAP
Lived here for 8 years and would not recommend it at all. High maintenance fees for a gated community and gates have been opened for the last two years if not more than that. New construction of Capital One took over. It’s not safe to walk like it was before. Too much traffic and too much noise. I don’t regret moving to my new place in Maryland where it’s peaceful and quiet
