Unique hand made cross stitch silhouettes from pictures into heirlooms and gifts.
Cindy Gates, Cross Stitcher Extrodinaire
If there is something to genetics and creative ability, then I have to think that has played a role in my love for hand-crafted work. My parents and all my grandparents have created a wide variety of creative projects. I started young with needlecraft projects – crewel, cross stitch, needlepoint – and painting, drawing, macramé and other mediums.
I am the mother of triplets. Needlecraft projects were a way to relax between caring for them when they were little. I found that I had more time as they grew older. “Now what?” became the big question, so I started my own custom cross stitch company in 2009.
Gates Shadows is a unique way to capture any subject and turn it into a silhouette that brings the likeness and personality of the subject permanently onto fabric. Each piece is custom made. What is so rewarding for me is that during the process the subject seems to come to life, and my customers are very pleased and appreciative of each silhouette I create.
I have been married to my husband, Glenn, for 29 years. We have three children (triplets) are Rebecca, Robert, and Russell and live in our log home in the hills surrounding Dansville.
