The GHR - Living History Farm is in the initial stages of creation will open to the public in 2019. The Ranch is located 4 miles east of Yakima.
The O.J. Gendron Hop Ranch is currently a two acre parcel surrounded by hops on three sides. It was once a much larger family ranch of 120 acres that went from Beaudry Rd. to nearly the Hop field on the west side of the kiln. As family retired, the kiln was retired in 1953 and the hop fields sold to their current owner. Hops have been farmed continuously since the late 1890's on most of the land though hop fields were much smaller in the early days compared to current acreages.
To ignite the passion of learning in the visitor by making the past relevant to the present.
Currently, the vision is to create a living history site at the Ranch which portrays the era before the great depression. Our product so to speak will be labeled "Edutainment" as we seek to preserve the site as historically accurate as possible, preserve the history of the site and this era of the Moxee Valley in all its glory, to preserve and pass on the everyday ways of farm life and hop farming of the late teens to early 1920's, and many other facets too numerous to mention. This is not a static museum but an interactive, hands-on, family oriented site with live animals and the opportunity to experience things first hand.
