We had a wonderful wedding experience here. As the time moved closer to our event, communication was perfect. Even my last minute menu changes were handled without hesitation. I highly recommend Gilberts. The venue, food and staff were amazing. We were able to use the loft as a bridal suite to get ready. We held our ceremony under the decorated arch and then enjoyed the same space for our reception. They also have a beautiful outdoor wedding area but because of it being cold we opted for inside. Behind the barn is a nice hidden area from arriving guests where we shared a first look moment and got some family pictures as well. We had no issues with bathrooms, the heat worked great, food roasted chicken was so delicious and whatever was left over was bagged up for us to take home. We couldn't have been happier with our choice in venue.
5 Stars!! We had our annual family Christmas party here. Gilbert's staff was AWESOME, all the food was AMAZING, & was the perfect location in the middle of everything! They really did a SUPER job all around, was very friendly & nice to all our family! Thank You Gilbert's for a WONDERFUL Family experience! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Impressive Team! We had a retirement party/company family picnic at Gilbert’s in mid-July – also the same day we had record rainfall in the Dayton area. We didn’t get to use the outside as planned for games and activities, but the little ones sure enjoyed playing in the rain puddles out front! We had plenty of room inside and it was very comfortable. The food was good, and leftovers were bagged for us to take home. Dana and the team were easy to work with, and easy to get ahold of. Our retiree Guest of Honor realized when she got home that her card and a gift card were missing. She contacted Gilbert’s directly that evening, and they OFFERED to dig through the trash bags to search for those missing items. Mind you, this dumpster diving was done in the non-stop rain! And they found the card and the gift card in a trash bag. I am so appreciative of this extra effort. We will definitely return to Gilbert’s for another company function.
This business was sold to new owners and I have to say, all the high ratings from when this was originally Gilbert’s Party Barn should be removed. The new owners are horrible…rude, argumentative, they were screaming at people in the wedding party, made a huge scene about the method of payment and apparently demanded cash or check from family members of the bride and groom… it made all of the guests really uncomfortable… they then started clearing things out while the DJ was still playing. It was the worst way I’ve ever seen a business owner in hospitality behave. It looked like a Jerry Springer episode. If you want to have a nice wedding, and a great experience … do not waste your money…. Guests even got scolded and their hands slapped for trying to pick up a rolled piece of plastic silverware…. When it rained water poured down the wall and there was a huge puddle underneath the DJ table, there is NO refrigerator on site. After setting up for the reception, the owner finally showed up when everything was done and wanted to tear down tables, move the backdrop and change setup because there were things in her space and not set the way she wanted… I don’t have enough time to detail everything that was so bad, but trust me when I say, pick another spot.
Me and my wife set and graduation/birthday , being they were 2 days apart, at Gilbert’s 1 year in advance. Dana said she would call us 2 two weeks before the day, to arrange food. After not hearing from her, we called and made a order to accommodate 100 guests. At this time she gave us our total that was due that day. After weeks of daily preparations for the party we were set! We loaded both of our vehicles with the cake, coolers, decorations, signs that were ordered, chips, etc. We had one stop to make before our arrival, party balloons! As I arrived first to Gilbert’s, I seen many guests there, that I did not recognize. My wife showed up moments later. Very confused of the party that was in full swing, we made it to the cooking area where we were greeted by Dana. After a very short conversation with Dana , we realized there was a problem. Dana had bogus claims that we canceled a month and a 1/2 ago. We said we just spoke with you two weeks ago about the food!? Dana walked inside gabbed the contract, brought it out waving it in the air showing a date she wrote on the paper that we canceled. This is a something you do not want to experience, cornered I had made a call to my mother in law of the problem at hand. At this point this is utter chaos. Our mother in law made phone calls to prep for “move” of the party destination. A man approached , said he was the owner, and asked what was going on. After giving him some background on the situation he said he would be back. His solution was we could use the shed next to the active party, and that they only had 15 hamburgers. Our decision was make this work, we now have 50-100 guests that will be here in 30-45 mins. We raced to store bought lunch meat , and other items to try and make this work. After all the tears of anger and disappointment with Dana, we made it to the end of night. Our party was good with the joy of family with a outgoing approach on life. We know life can be tough so you have to make the best of it. The man that said he was the owner, was very helpful along with other employees I feel he done the best to help clean up the mess Dana had made. He was not rude. As far as Dana, she really dropped the ball. I can’t believe her aggressive approach & accusations. We planned a year ahead , and was willing to pay $1700 for a place, as well as food. Hamburgers and hotdogs. All to avoid any problems. We had one chance to make the perfect party, however at Gilbert’s with Dana we had major problems, along with no food. I will never suggest this place. Again I do appreciate the man that tried to rectify Dana double booking appointments.
I loved the way the place looked but the management ruins it! 3 weeks before my wedding when I called to talk about catering I was told I rescheduled and my date has been taken. I never changed date and dana gave me a mini stroke. The night before my wedding we came to decorate, they had no refrigerator space so we had to go out and buy a ton of coolers. I told her I was concerned about the weather because rain was in the forecast but she didn't seem to care about my concern and just said oh we should be good. Fast forward to my wedding day my husband gets there 45 min before the wedding and chairs are not out. Rain was coming but it wasn't raining yet. I called and asked why chairs were not out and was screamed at! I mean so loud my photographer could hear her. I was in shock. I wasn't being a bridezilla or anything I just didn't know what was going on. I said we would just do the ceromony inside even though it didn't rain until after the wedding. the toilets flooded and the bathrooms were un usuable. I tried to call to let them know but they didn't answer. Finally someone was coming into the barn and I said the toilets were overflowed and his response me,the bride was great what else can go wrong. Would not recommendthis venue to anyone!
Dana took care of us in every way we wanted! We had our ceremony and reception there. I did a quick count of the chairs and thought there wasn't enough and recounted and realized she put out extra for us just in case because we didn't think a few people would make it, even though we paid for them but she made sure if they came they had a seat. Our guests loved the big barn and loved the food! If we needed more if things we told her and she made it happen! She even came to see me right before the wedding to calm me down and tell me everything is going to go great! I highly recommend Gilbert's to all of my friends! And I feel the price was very fair for everything we got! Thank you do much Dana I couldn't be happier!
I can't begin to describe how trashy this place is managed. The management only cares about money and will rob you dry. They do not care about you. They aren't concerned about making sure your event goes well. You can rest assured if something goes wrong, they won't help you. If they do manage to help you somehow, they will give you grief about it. I was helping at my cousin's wedding a few months ago and I met the manager. I think her name was Dana but I'm not too sure at the moment, but if you do end up meeting her, you'll immediately recognize her. She basically is a "my way or the highway" kind of person. No compromise. No skills in communication. Her staff basically have to bow down to her. She is very brash and abrasive. Very hard to deal with and always carries a condescending attitude. I get it. It's hard to be a manager. You have to deal with a ton of crap from people. But there's a proper way to go about, and then there's her way. If they changed the manager to someone easier to deal with, I wouldn't be opposed to this place as much. In retrospect, I found the area not bad looking. Food was very sub par. Burgers were black. Mac was alright. Price wasn't even that good of a deal.
DO NOT expect Dana manager at Gilbert's to return your phone calls or go out of her way to help you with your event. We had our daughter's wedding there two years ago - "unexpected" charges popped up at the last minute. Both restrooms were out of TP during the event - seemed like the staff would've been easily accessible to take care of this stuff. The roast pig was good but the side are sub par for sure. If you're looking for all the details upfront, a staff that goes out of their way to help, and a workable venue ... keep looking.
The setting is very nice and worth it from that aspect, however the owner's people skills and business sense are sorely lacking. She tried to charge my daughter more for her reception, and let her know during the reception. Her food people were eating out of the trays as they set up. When our trash cans were overflowing we could not find anyone to empty them and bring us new ones. And worst of all, she was touring prospective customers through the place while we were there getting ready for the wedding! The girls were changing clothes upstairs and we had guests arriving and she started touring! After a couple complaints, she just kept stating that it is 'her' barn and she can do what she wants. Beware!
