City of Gilmer water department is located in City Hall. Kathy, the receptionist/Clerk is extremely friendly and upbeat. She is efficient and professional with her work. The office is in need of an update but it is clean and well-lit. There is a night deposit box available for dropping off payments after hours.
Management of the lake is terrible since the City has taken it over. They continually spray chemicals into the water to kill off the vegetation. That vegetation was introduced into the lake when built for the purpose of healthy fish and bait. For the last two years it has been reduced to a mud hole. The dead grass is just piling up on the bottom of the lake. The lake has always been clear water, healthy fish, and healthy vegetation. I have noticed for over a year now the fish have some kind of sores on them, quality of fish is poor, and the water won’t clear up. I can only assume it’s from all the chemicals being sprayed into the water. This is a fishing lake, not a pleasure boating, or swimming lake. The lake was never broke, stop trying to fix it! Also, can someone explain to everyone why the lake is 6 feet low? Way to to City of Gilmer, y’all have ruined one of the best bass fishing lakes in Texas, thanks.
I would like to say thanks to water and sewer department for the fast help given me last night. I had a stopped up sewer and was unable to clear it with a store bought drain cleaner. Had a fast and friendly response and the city cleared the stoppage in the main in no time. Very good service! Thanks public works! This is why I moved to Gilmer 25 years ago and still live here to this day. Thanks, Kelly Ferguson
The police here do not do their jobs at all!!! Unless for woman. A woman does the same thing he gets locked up and she gets away with it

Today is the Rose festival in Gilmer downtown. Band and street dancing this evening.
City of Gilmer City Hall is wonderful! The staff is friendly and helpful.
