Dr. John Gumbs graduated from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine , and completed residency at Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
He joined PVH, which was the largest group of small animal practices in the state of Michigan. There he set up the first surgical referral service outside of the university setting within their 13 small animal clinics.
Dr. Gumbs subsequently joined Michigan Veterinary Specialists in Southfield where he was a top surgeon performing countless cruciate ligament repairs, disc surgeries, and fracture repairs. He also performed many gall bladder removals, open-heart surgeries to remove heartworms in cats, gastric dilation volvulus procedures.
In 1997 Dr. Gumbs opened Global Veterinary Services, where he now travels all over southeast Michigan performing surgeries. He continues to operate 20 plus ligament repairs weekly, fracture cases, and now he has added the TTA (Tibia Tubercle Advancement) procedure to his list of surgical services.
Dr. Gumbs lives next to his other love, a golf course, in a suburb of Ann Arbor with his wife, three Leonbergers, and three horses.
