Golden West Restaurant opened on Soquel Avenue in Santa Cruz in 1977. It was a spinoff of Golden West Pancakes under the ownership of Walsh & Rothstein. The first general manager was Frank Deniz III.
Golden West Restaurant thrived during the late 1970's and early 1980's, often doing as much business on a weekend graveyard shift as it did on a Sunday morning.
Jeffrey's Restaurant, presently owned and operated by (the one and only) Jeff Walsh, is now in business where Golden West Restaurant once was. Five amazing members of the waitstaff who worked at Golden West currently work at Jeffrey's: Diana, Janet, Juan, Rosie & Shellee.
Golden West Pancakes opened on Ocean Street in Santa Cruz years earlier. It is now home to Santa Cruz Diner. Like its Soquel Avenue counterpart, the diner employs some faces from its Golden West past (more details to come).
