My name is Laura Collier and I have had the privilege of working in the fitness industry for the past 25 years. About 5 ½ years ago, I learned about some "ballet barre” classes being taught in San Francisco that were creating some very dedicated and obsessed followers. I was intrigued. I researched and found there were very few of these type classes being offered in this country. So, I decided to create my own with a team of fitness-based instructors as well as instructors with ballet backgrounds. We put our heads and creative juices together and merged these two disciplines into a cohesive and unique workout.
In August 2009, Raising the Barre was launched and in February 2014, it was renamed to Got Barre?™.
I thought this class would just be a fun, new workout. What happened was amazing: Women began commenting on how much their bodies had changed, their jeans fit better, their waist was smaller and tighter, and even said their significant others had noticed a rounder, tighter derriere :) They were hooked. Got Barre?™ became a culture, with some of the most dedicated participants and instructors I have ever seen in 25 years. It was because of our participants that I decided it was time to share this little "secret" with the rest of the world.
