This hotel was nice, but it was very rough around the edges. We checked into our room, and it seemed very nice and roomy. We did notice, however, that the floor was wet around the A/C unit probably because of a pipe that must have gotten clogged and then began leaking. The light switch by the bedside table was broken, so we had to use the one in the entryway. Didn't seem like too big of a deal, though. We then left the hotel to do the usual tourist-y stuff in New York City, and then we came back around evening. I decided to take a shower, because we'd been on the subway and who knows what kind of dirt and germs are on there. We then found out there was something like one or two bath towels and a skinnier towel you use as the bath mat. No washcloths, though! We called room service to ask for some washcloths and extra towels, in which they came in a few minutes with our stuff. I stepped into the shower and noticed the porcelain was chipping on the inside of the bath tub. Then I couldn't even figure out how to turn on the shower, but then realized you had to pull the knob towards you and then twist it like a normal shower knob to change the water temperature. When I pulled the knob, the metal cover behind the knob came loose. It looked like there was just one screw that was supposed to hold it in place and no caulking, and of course that one screw had become loose. I pushed the cover back against the wall and proceeded to take a shower. I then found out the drain was clogged, so I was in this big rush to finish showering so the standing water wouldn't flow over the edge. The water eventually drained within maybe thirty minutes after I showered. We then went to bed, and found there were only three pillows on the two double beds as opposed to four, which was a problem since I usually have a pillow pressed against my ear so I don't hear background noise; and I wanted to just let my mom use the third pillow. Plus, my dad even though he was in the other bed is a REALLY loud snorer. I just used a clean washcloth, because it was too much trouble to call room service at 10:00 at night when we were all about to go to sleep. The next night, we ordered a pillow, which I used, and that seemed to take care of the problem. Overall, though, I still wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone because of the somewhat poor condition the room was in. I think if they kept up with their rooms better, our experience would've been better.
Stayed here for 4 nights 5 days and had a great time. This spot is prime for basically everything. Sitting right above grand central with ease of access to the subway station was a game changer. I will always stay at this location on future visits for this alone. If you're thinking it costs more, think about how simple it will be to get around from here. Yes things were expensive, and I think all the charges that NYC has on their locations is ridiculous. One charge, which is the primary reason I made this 4 stars instead of 5, is a location charge or something ridiculous. They charge like $40 a day but never mention that it actually gets you discounts. I wouldn't have realized this if I hadn't scanned a QR code in the elevator. The best "perk" is that you get a $15/day credit in their convenience shop called the market. Everything in the shop is ridiculously priced but at least you can start or finish the day with like 2 large waters covered by the credit. The room was normal sized vs the tiny rooms I've had in other hotel rooms in the city. The service was great. When we arrived long before check in mind you we figured we would just be checking our bags and starting to explore. Someone working the mobile check in mentioned checking in on the app and it would be much quicker than waiting in the line that extended to the escalators pretty long. Instead of waiting an hour or more in that line we were checked in within 30 seconds via the app with our room keys already! Insanity. Amazing service. Everyday we saw our room attendants and they ensured we always had what we needed. We never needed anything extra but they were always pleasant in passing in the hall and were excellent on the 29th floor. Whenever I eventually return to New York I will most definitely be staying at this location. Greatly recommended. Rooms: Larger than other rooms found in hotels throughout the city. Clean. Heavy doors. Nearby activities: NYC Safety: Safe area. Walkability: Everything is within relative walking distance. Primarily subway to really get around. Prime spot.
the hotel was fine - I did have a nice experience with the staff but there are definitely things that can be improved. When visiting the concierge, she told us "I live in queens I'm not sure" and then did a google search which took out the point of using the concierge. The rooms were fine, the bathroom lighting is awful for my makeup girlies, and the bathroom towels were super poor. The housekeeping took the washcloths and hand towels out after our first night and never replaced for some reason until I called. The location is great if you plan on using the subway!
From the time we checked it, it was disappointing. The one king bedroom suite with pull out couch and pack and play that I requested had 2 queen beds and no couch. Instead I was charged extra for a rollaway bed. The entire hotel had 0 microwaves so if you wanted to warm up food, you couldn't there. Great trick to make you eat at the internal market or restaurant. The room had bugs like fruit flies all through it. They were smashed on ceiling in the bathroom so it was an existing problem before we checked in. We constantly called about bath cloths and they brought us hand towels to use in the shower. The reason was that no bath cloths had come in. So for 2 days we had to take showers with just soap. For $425+ plus a night there was no mini bar or any kind of bottle water. The floors were dirty. The staff I dealt with were rude and basically had a "care less" attitude when it came to the issues of our room. We didn't have the option to leave so we had to accept the room. The receptionist said she didn't have any available rooms period! I felt like she was lying. The bell hops were the best thing about the hotel because they were on their job to make sure we had transportation and our luggage moved when needed. For the price, the restaurant didn't have a variety of food. And it was $150 for buffet for me, my wife, 9 yr old son, and 2 yr old daughter. $45 for each adult and $25 for each child. It was no way we ate that much food! Probably enough for two meals. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel and it need some serious improvement with the staff and amenities. And get a dam microwave! That's ridiculous! Rooms: My room had bugs in it and no bath cloths for 2 days Food & drinks: No variety of food and somewhat expensive. Drinks were fine Noteworthy details: No microwaves in the entire hotel
My Mom and I came to NYC for the Tribeca Film Festival. We arrived in horrible air quality from the Canadian wildfires. So, to avoid the bad air, we spent the first day entirely indoors. We were so glad we had chosen this hotel! The hospitality was out of this world. Alex, was always friendly and treated us like VIPs. The food was really exceptional and the decor was lovely as well. The hotel has a small, boutique feel so it was homey. I loved the way there were several distinct areas to enjoy. We started with the beautiful dining room. Then we sat in the sunken lounge area. On our final day, we enjoyed the lovely outdoor patio. Once the air had cleared, we had an incredible view of the southern portion of Manhattan- including the Statue of Liberty in the distance. Space is at a premium in Manhattan, so the room was compact as expected. But the design is impeccable and the space works well. We never felt cramped and there was room for all the stuff we brought. We stayed 5 nights so there was a lot! Everyone in the staff was friendly, competent and helpful. You get the feeling they truly enjoy working there. We had so much fun in the hotel, we hardly left!
Looks cheaper than nearby places, but FYI on the $45 destination fee that’s added when you arrive. You get a $15 credit for the little cafe/market there, but a bottle of sparkling water is $10 so it quickly disappears. Breakfast in the morning is $45/person. Room was nice and clean.
I realize the Hyatt doesn't need my help, but I did see some negative reviews and I have to refute what some people were saying. We had a wonderful experience with the staff. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. Perhaps the people who claimed to have negative experiences with the staff are the sort of people who think it's acceptable to be rude and verbally abuse those in the hospitality industry and were shocked to find their behavior was not responded well to. In any case, the room was beautiful and housekeeping checked in with us about when would be convenient for them to clean our room. The food was expensive, but that's to be expected. All in all, great experience!
was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. i heard its slated to be knocked down in 2 years so i thought it wouldnt be nice, but it was very clean and was better than i expected. the staff was extremely helpful and friendly especially kim court. the breakfast buffet had tons of options and the lounge was great as well. the location is right at the heart of midtown by grand central. everything was clean and surprisingly modern. would definitely stay here again
Convenient location, but the service and rooms are not up to standard, very small rooms with old worn out furniture. The air vents were dirty, no coffee machine, couple lights were out. Room service is terrible, asked for couple extra body soap and shampoo but they brought us a whole packet, I don’t need them all and they won’t fit in the small shower space that you have, asked for an extra bath towel, it never showed up and had to call and request again the other day. The customer service said they couldn’t help add a guest name to the room and we have to call the third party site we booked from to have the name added, I understand the security reason but you don’t have to be mean and rude and can easily explain what steps to take.
Overall this hotel was nice, they had good customer service and it's in a great location next to public transit. However, I would like to mention a few things: 1. The rooms are pretty small, not for more than 3 adults. 2. Dated hotel, musty/mildew smell throughout. 3. Rooms, have quick fixes, scraped paint, chipped showing wood. 4. Shower had mold growing in the top areas and as a person with asthma this was unsettling to me. 5. The pillows and bedding have a distinct smell, and when I requested new ones they still smelled dirty. 6. The high speed internet was very slow slower than my regular phone service and to us it was not worth the 19.99 that was comped by the destination fee $40.
