Was here for Labour Day weekend and I have mixed reviews. The front desk staff were miserable to converse with, not polite or friendly. Spoke with three different workers throughout my stay and they all had the same demeanour as if they couldn’t care less. Not a great way to start my vacation/check in process, especially since they are the first face people see when coming into the hotel. The elevators were slower than turtles but that’s neither here nor there - it is what it is! We got up to our room and it was on par with what we paid for. Nothing negative or positive to say about the rooms, it was average and what you’d see in any hotel. I do want to highlight the amazing housekeeping staff though! Ran into about 4 of them during the whole stay and they were amazing, so friendly, kind and really put the guests first they should be at the front desk! They were the only extremely positive thing about my stay staff wise. Location wise, this is a good spot for what I was looking for. Close to some local shops grocery, pharmacy, etc subway stations and a little bit of nightlife. It’s a smaller hotel so there are no amazing skyline views, but that didn’t bother us as we were out of the room most of the day anyways exploring NYC. Wifi signal was always pretty good did drop a few times but that happens in most places. They had free coffee and tea in the morning which was nice, but it was at odd hours and tasted like instant coffee! I wouldn’t book this spot again for the price, as it was just average and the front desk staff really tainted my whole experience. There are better hotels and probably cheaper ones that would have granted me the same experience.
I was very happy with my choice to stay here. After a difficult trip from the airport, I was sweaty and exhausted and hoping to check in early so I could get changed. The front desk found me a room that was available, and it was an upgrade on what I booked. They gave me the king with the fridge and microwave instead of the regular. I hadn't thought to book that, but it really came in handy. It was such a relief to be able to settle in right away. Front desk staff were very polite and professional. I've stayed in different places in NYC and it's hard to find a decent hotel that isn't either incredibly expensive or a bit "quirky". I thought Hilton would have a certain standard I could count on for a comfortable stay, and it did!
I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience. I was there for one night and they incorrectly charged me for three nights of valet parking instead of two nights. I discovered this when I saw I was overcharged $200. It is very difficult to reach someone in billing no one picks up the phone and after multiple hours and calls I finally spoke to someone who told me the mistake and that they would correct the charge. When I asked them to email me an invoice she hung up on me and was very rude. I am still waiting for the issue to be resolved. Other less serious issues also include that they seem to be understaffed no waitresses or waiters at the first floor restaurant, took 1.5 hours to get a simple order when the restaurant was open since the bartender said he wasn’t able to heat up pizza and my car was outside for 2.5 hours with its hazard lights on blocking traffic before valet moved it.. Also the food is not good, better to just eat out somewhere nearby. Check in is very slow, and staff not friendly. UPDATE: I am still waiting on a resolution to this billing issue. No one has returned my messages or reached out to me after my stay four weeks ago.
Stayed here about a month ago and would never stay here again. We checked in and the person at the front desk asked for a credit card, he showed me a charge and said it would be $200 more for incidentals. I told him that was way more than my quoted price and then showed him and he said he adjusted it. I also wanted to switch the credit card that was on file, but I never got the chance to put my card in the machine because he said he already clicked through with the one we used for booking. After my stay, I checked my statement and I was charged $120 more than my quoted price. I have been calling the hotel itself as well as Hilton’s customer service line and have not heard back from the hotel nor has the issue been resolved. It is very frustrating! The hotel itself is very mediocre. They do not provide maid service daily and they only leave the beverage station up for a couple hours in the morning. The elevators seem to always take forever. Also, the staff is very rude and do not care to accommodate their guests. I witnessed several people arguing with them at the front desk. Just so unprofessional. The only thing good about it is the location, other than that, I would not stay here again.
The hotel is nice with generally good service but the balcony in my room had dirty dishes from a previous guest and cables from window washing equipment so it wasn’t as good as I expected for viewing the skyline. Also the restaurant at the hotel is terrible. The waitress spoke English so poorly that she wasn’t able to understand my order for tea, and when she brought someone else over to take the order, it turned out that they don’t have any regular black tea, just some weird herbal tea. In addition my omelette had an off taste like rancid cooking oil and the potatoes were soggy. I found the meal, which cost, $17, so bad I only ate a couple of bites. The buffet had supposedly fresh fruit that tasted like canned. I’ll never eat there again! The hotel’s location is extremely convenient, however, and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby,
I’d give solid 4 stars, my room was kept nice and clean and the bed was actually much more comfortable than I expected. Check in was smooth and the location is great. Reason for 4 stars is that one of the lamps light bulb was dead and the body soap was empty.Rooms: 4/5
Our expectations were beyond met during our stay at the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Manhattan-Midtown East. My husband and I booked a pet friendly king room which was clean and had everything we needed. The staff was very friendly not only to us, but to our dogs as well, and provided excellent service. My husband and I had to extend our stay a couple of days and the hotel staff were more than accommodating. We are very grateful for the hospitality shown by everyone to name a couple, Lisbeth and Maynard, but there are many more. In addition, the location is ideal and we felt safe walking through the neighborhood. There are also many great restaurants in the area, along with Peter Detmold Park that has a dog run ~3 blocks east, and tourist attractions within walking distance or a short subway ride. I expect this won't be our one and only stay at this location. I highly recommend, and thank you to everyone who made our stay so pleasant!
The concierge staff is very friendly, courteous and professional. The facility is very clean and smells good. The rooms are not very spacious, but accommodable. The beds are very good, soft, restful, and clean. You have to pay $3 for a bottle of water if you're not a member, that was not cool. But otherwise, it was very good to stay there. Walkability: Everything is at walking distance. The train station is less than one block away. The location is perfect for tourists.
Hilton Gardens Review When you go to a Hilton, even a Hilton “Gardens”, you expect a certain level of quality and professionalism. I found both lacking at this hotel. It’s an odd building with only 8 rooms per floor and two tiny elevators that were frequently overwhelmed. The lobby is also tiny with just a couple of places to hang out. There is an attached restaurant, more on that later. The location is quite good, being a short walk to Grand Central and Central Park and a short subway ride to Times Square and the Empire State Building. The room was quite nice, esp for NYC. We had two queen beds, and enough storage space for 3 people for 5 days, although the furniture is looking a bit scuffed up and tired. The bathroom was nicely appointed, very clean and one of the best showers I've ever been in – lots of water pressure and fast hot water. There were 3 of us, but only had 2 bath towels. Fortunately the linen cart was left permanently in the hallway Just like a Motel 6! so we could help ourselves to anything we wanted. Apparently there is no place to store the linens, or the vacuum which also lived in the hallway the whole 5 days we were there. Some reviews criticized the beds which we found to be OK. They were a bit hard, and in need of a pillow top mattress or memory foam, but overall not too bad. A/C and ventilation were pretty good. Daily housekeeping is not done at this hotel, even at the close to $500 a night price. It was a popular week thanks to NYU graduation. You had to ask for it, and there was a tiny sticker on the wall mirror to that effect. When I asked at the front desk, I was told they needed 24 hours advance notice. I did this, but still didn't get the room cleaned the next day either. I am not sure how they feel they can justify almost $500 and not offer daily housekeeping service as standard. A bigger problem was that our toilet was cycling on and off constantly. It took SIX communications with the front desk Including one directly with the maintenance person. to get someone to look at it, and then they didn't actually fix the problem completely. The common floors were always dusty and/or dirty, even first thing in the morning when one would expect the cleaning crew had just finished. Then there’s the restaurant. I asked the front desk for a breakfast menu as the one in the room was for evening room service only. He rattled off what they offered, which didn't help me, so I went in after they had just closed and asked again for a menu from two different people. I was told twice they were closed. One person started reciting the menu to me again, until I stopped them and asked to see an actual menu. It’s $22 for a “breakfast buffet”, plus a few a la carte items like a b-fast sandwich, French Toast and pancakes. When we finally decided to try it, it took 15 minutes for anyone to notice us, even though we walked right past the manager when we entered. The buffet was terrible with scrambled eggs some sad looking pancakes and turkey sausage. They were out of bacon, And pork sausage so I asked for sausage on my b-fast sandwich, and got ham. The eggs had zero flavor, the cheese was barely melted and the roll was a couple days old. I sent ½ of it back. Got no credit. My guests had the French toast and pancakes which they said were OK. For me, hotels are all about value. For a lesser price, you expect less. Admittedly, we were paying a premium for the time of year. Prices are down quite a bit now, but I think you could get better value from other places. Hilton should not put their name on a facility unless they are going to live up their well earned reputation. 07/23 - After several weeks of back and forth, I sent an email to their customer support line as well as the CEO, and THAT finally got a result. I dealt with a very nice lady who listened carefully to my story and promised to have the hotel Manager call me which she did. So the story has a happy ending, although it took some time!
