Been here twice. They have consistently ruined my T-shirt’s and my whites. Bleach spots all over my whites and my tees all have some kind of detergent stain. It seems Astoria does not have good drop off services.
I would like to clarify some things from these one-star reviews. Greenspin is a class operation. They are very popular. The reason you may 'take your clothes to dry elsewhere' is elsewhere is empty and Greenspin is in demand. The Spanish speaking staff are exceptionally hardworking and friendly. Everyone on staff is. Rarely does anyone tip them. They maintain cleanliness AND meet a HUGE demand for drop-off with no real extra incentive. Please tip them. The bench outside is an outdoor bench in NYC. Next to a public looking bench. If you think Homeless people can be kept away, then you have never seen a Pigeon perch behind the spikes. All outdoor benches get used as a homeless hangout in NYC. The young guy that sits and smoke spice there does that everywhere in the hood and could use some life help, I am sure. Unhoused people do not hang out inside. Just the hard working under appreciated staff and us entitled customers who think we can act like it is our homes and not a high demand neighborhood amenity. Greenspin rocks. I'll wait 10 minutes for a dryer.
The dryers are always full. I'm literally here with another guy and we are sharing 2 dryers because other people leave their clothes for hours. It can't be helped if other people leave their clothes for too long, but there are other people who need to get their clothes cleaned. In other areas where I lived, this was never an issue. I also agree with the other review about the cleanliness of the place. The machines stink, there is mold on the rubber parts of the machines and a while back a worker gave me attitude for daring to ask how often the dryers lint traps are cleaned. If the lint traps aren't cleaned often, after every dryer use, it can take clothes longer to dry and/or cause a fire. I sent a message through your website, but I will post it here as well. Your worker on 10/1/23 is very rude. The large machine was not putting detergent into the washer and when I brought it to the workers attention, they yelled, interrupted me, and kept saying they were too busy to help me. The water from a prior wash was still in there and had milky white stuff swirling inside. When I asked for a cup to take out the water myself, she yelled at me and aggressivly used a random bag to spill out the water herself all over the machine. This is the second time this worker has been rude and aggressive towards me because I asked for help. Is this what you mean by serving the Astoria community? Asking a question sets off your employees?
Unfortunately my wife and I may seek a new place to do our laundry. While we are just two customers, so the business may not care, we believe this review may alert management to some ongoing issues that perhaps will help them make some changes to make it a more inviting and convenient laundromat. Let's start with the issue of the dryers. It doesn't matter what day of the week you go I for example always do laundry during the weekdays, often on Mondays when I'm off, my wife on Sat/Sun when she's off, the dryers are rarely available. And generally it's because the second half of the dryers to the right are all being used by the staff with big Staff stickers placed on them. Fine, but then you as a business have to regulate the dryers a bit better by removing customers clothing from the dryers that are finished. I can't tell you the amount of times we have washed our clothes there, only to have to take our wet clothes around the block to another laundromat in order to find a dryer because we saw it would be a nearly 15-20 minute wait time for another available one. Mind you, some of the ones that had staff written on them were not even being used! However, even with this issue we continued going there. Let's move onto the staff. While the gentlemen at the counter are usually welcoming and will greet you with a hello, the ladies that work there with the exception of the older Spanish speaking woman stare at you as you enter as though you are an intruder. Every. Time. It doesn't make sense, unless they see us customers as competition for the washers and dryers? Basic customer service, greet your customers/clients! The last straw was today for me. I washed my clothes, with headphones on and was awaiting a dryer as none were available. There was very kind woman standing next to me who I realized was attempting to speak to me, so I removed my headphones as I realized she was telling me in Spanish that the younger Spanish speaking worker there would remove clothes from the dryer if I asked her. That same worker she was referring to walked across me, and began speaking to the other customer. I guess that particular worker didn't realize that I speak Spanish as well, because she began to berate me to the other customer stating that she didn't care to move the clothes because I ignored her earlier. I calmly said to her in Spanish, "you know you probably shouldn't talk about customers in your place of business, you never know what languages they speak". She looked shocked and proceeded to remove clothes from two dryers, which I didn't use out of principle and stubbornness lol. I told her I wasn't ignoring her but had my headphones in, and that she could've gotten my attention rather then ignore a customer waiting for a dryer. She kept going back and forth but I decided to just stay quiet. She is not the only one who works there who can be rude. I normally don't write reviews, you can see how few I have. But this incident really bothered me. It's the most convenient location in terms of proximity and it's a shame that I will have to go further to do my laundry, but it doesn't make sense to be made to feel like they are doing me a favor when I pay to do my laundry there. I can't say for certain that I won't go back, but I may give a few other locations a try.
This is the dirtiest laundromat i’ve ever been in… next to the dryers all the way down is basically a corner full of random stuff including a broken cart a pile of dirt/socks, been there since i first started coming here. Inside the machines stink. The workers don’t care about what you’re saying or the place. The flyers on the walls are peeling off full of corners of dirt around them. I’m convinced the workers just come here do the washing, fold and leave. They don’t clean, sweep or anything. There’s one dryer that’s been sitting there with the same clothes in it for the past 2 weeks. Nobody cares. But what did it for me was the huge roach, which i told the lady that’s mostly there and she just left it and pushed it under the table. Disgusting. This is supposed to be where we clean out clothing not dip them in more dirt. Whoever the owner is should pay a store visit and go thru their employees because it’s either the owner doesn’t care ab quality just money or the workers are just here to make their quick money and dip. Do better we live in a world of bacteria and dirt.
Sigh. I have so many mixed feelings about Green Spin. On the one hand, I love that it is the largest laundromat in the Ditmars area with plenty of space to fold laundry, sit, and work on a computer as you wait for your laundry to finish they have free WiFi. Their washing machines offer more control than the typical NYC machines. I like that their laundry card system offers a free load if you put a certain amount of money in. It is also nice and cold in here, a godsend in this NYC heat. But even with all these positives, I cannot get over the fact that half of their machines are consistently out of order. This is not an exaggeration and it’s completely maddening. I’m sitting here and literally counted only 18 machines that are available for use. Out of 36 machines. With the amount of money they charge per load $3 for the smallest drum, as high as $6.25 for the largest, this is just completely unacceptable. I honestly don’t know how much longer I can tolerate the growing prices when machines are always broken, and I know I'm not the only regular customer that feels this way. Management, please get your act together and fix the machines!!
I can't speak to the in-person laundromat experience, but I've been using Green Spin for about a year and a half now for pick-up and drop-off laundry service. The service is always great -- as far as we know, we've never lost any items a problem I've had with past laundry places, and the delivery folks are communicative. If they are available earlier for pick-up or drop-off, they will often text to ask if it's OK to come earlier, which I appreciate. Also, their laundry reservation system is through an app called CleanCloud, which allows you to track where the delivery truck is at any given time a bit like Amazon deliveries sometimes do. Highly recommend.
I used Green Spin for about a year and used to really love it, but recently picks ups and drops offs have been later and later, falling outside the designated pickup/drop off window multiple times in a row. It's caused me issues/with my schedule I cannot risk is, so I've switched services.
The machines run great! It’s a clean place too but the Hispanic/Latin old lady might have to learn some manners to speak with people. She’s always very rude.
I like that place, clean machines and fast to use them. Good customer service. The workers are nice and help you a lot.
