Dr. Ben Haws is a Tennessee native: he grew up in Jonesborough and completed his pre-dental studies at East Tennessee State University. Dr. Haws attended dental school at the University of Tennessee where he graduated in the top 5 of his class. There he earned the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Award, Delta Dental Plan of Tennessee Scholarship Award for outstanding academic achievement and graduated with highest honors. He then continued his studies at Louisiana State University, completing his Orthodontic specialty in 2007. He received the 2007 James Bordelon, DDS Memorial Award for Clinical Excellence in Orthodontics. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honors Society, Richard Doggett Dean Honorary Odontological Society, the American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontics, and the Southern Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Haws believes that continuing education is the key to a gratifying professional career. After completing his orthodontic residency at LSU, Dr. Haws continued his education through the AEO (Advanced Education In Orthodontics). He completed the Roth-Williams course in Detroit, Michigan where he learned that the secret to long term health and stability of the chewing system is to achieve, as closely as possible, natures' ideal harmony between the teeth, jaw joints, and muscles. Dr. Haws'philosophy is to blend aesthetics, function, health and joint stability into his orthodontic practice. He believes a pretty smile is important, but it will not last without the correct marriage of function and form within the entire system.
Dr. Haws and his wife, Claudia, are excited about being back home in East Tennessee. Dr. Haws enjoys hunting, fishing, being on the lake, and playing with his dog, Colt. He is also an avid Tennessee sports fan. GO VOLS!
