Dr. Bernstein and his team are exceptionally professional, thoughtful, and attentive. The Dr. and his staff are good communicators and clearly describe the process and results so that you know what to expect - and they listen, respond to questions, and genuinely care about your well-being before, during, and after your appointments. - Seeing a doctor and having medical exams and internal tests done can be anxious and stressful but Dr. Bernstein, his staff and nurses really helped make me feel more more at ease and confident that I was in good hands. I truly appreciate them!
Great experience with Dr. Bernstein. First time seeing him and was immensely impressed. Dr. Bernstein had thoroughly reviewed all my records prior to the appointment and asked questions about and made references to things that even I’d forgotten about. It was great seeing a Dr. that was so engaged in my healthcare.
I struggled for 8 months with a dysfunctional colon. There were many days I couldn’t leave my house. I decided I needed a new perspective on my condition. My naturopath recommended I contact Dr Bernstein. Dr Bernstein nailed the diagnosis. His analysis led to comprehensive adjustments to medication, diet and supplements. Finally, my digestive disturbances began to ease, then heal. Today I wake up feeling physically and emotionally comfortable, hopeful and confident my colon will not let me down.
Dr. Bernstein is amazing! He made me feel at ease with my procedure. Any questions I had he answered them and genuine cares about your health. He will be my go to Gastro doctor.
I saw Dr. Bernstein three times at Gastro Health. Each time he was kind, attentive, on time, and efficient. What stood out most was how he remembered the personal reasons I was seeking treatment, not just the clinical or medical reasons. Dr. Bernstein genuinely embraces the human component of healthcare.
Overall, I’m a savvy medical consumer with complex medical history and I recommend Dr. Bernstein. I also find the office, staff, practice philosophy and online account good, refreshing and easy to work with. Just note that the Fremont Office entrance is on the block closest to the water. -More info below, especially if you experience medical-based trauma - I was hesitant to see Dr. Bernstein Mon 1/16/23 and he put my fears to rest quickly. He treated me as a whole patient and acted as if all my medical diagnoses and medications matter - which they do - but now that I see so many specialists and care is so fragmented it was kinda stressful to be asked to review other diagnoses. I’ll speak up and share that I have PTSD, including but not limited to medical treatment being part of it. Dr. Bernstein’s bedside manner and continuity of care approach was this instant reminder of how other providers -or how the industry runs doctors- was *sort of* failing me, but not Dr. B. the staff and his dedicated team was the same too. I’ve had gastro issues for a long time. One of those common things for LT childhood exposures to chronic elevated cortisol levels stress that then continues along in life with lots of achievement also elevated stress, and added issues of anemia and other items I won’t get into. The point being, it’s nice starting as a new patient with no past gastrointestinal doctor. Dr. Bernstein and his team were patient and attentive in taking my history, asking me questions, taking follow-up steps that I know fit my blood work and related symptoms and supporting me with resources. Mentioning which OTC aids can help with my particular symptoms b/c it can feel like guess work. I also felt the space to advocate for an RX medicine I already take that may or may not have complications for me personally, but we should see based on an upcoming procedure. Dr. B did not do this but for those in a similar situation - I do have an issue with controlled doses of celebrex being treated like a “dirty word” rx only by seattle doctors when it’s not habit forming, isn’t a narcotic nor have any kind of rxn like those drugs, and all these OTC and RX pain relievers have black box warnings. Are we gonna say the FDA isn’t to be trusted? Are we going to say adult patients don’t get self-determination in their life and medical options? Are we going to erase all the steps taken with patients before celebrex is approved by insurance? I had Seattle doctors from 2011-2015 put me through hell in their attempts to not prescribe renewed celebrex rx’s because they vilified it in a way that probably is not ethical, but fortunately I could still get help from the doctors still giving me continuity of care when dealing with two moves I made to Seattle. So Dr. B did NOT give me a rough time, but he did update me on the celebrex cautions and my fingers are crossed for my February procedure. Celebrex can restore sanity for people with hard to treat neurological pain, and it happens to treat osteoarthritis too. Last, I want to mention that Dr. Bernstein is friendly and assertive. He listens and he gets to the point. In my experience, some patients don’t like any differing opinions, or any kind of “let’s get to business “ approach in Seattle, but in my experience these are the best doctors among the providers I see. A “BFF” type doctor can enable bad habits, or just not even mention obvious red flags, give false diagnoses and prescribe harmful drugs you don’t need just to placate a patient without the patient knowing that’s what’s going on. I would much rather have a healthy exchange, than find myself severely sick because of either the placating actions of a bad provider or worse that I did in deed experience, but only ever in Seattle.
Dr. Bernstein and his staff are amazing. I had an ulcer issue during the holidays and they made it so quick and easy to get an appointment especially during the snowstorm! I had to go in for a procedure and Dr. Bernstein was kind, easy to talk to and quick! I highly recommend him for any gastro issues.
Health care providers long have been personal hero's of mine and I have had nothing but positive experiences as a patient. That changed in January of this year with Dr. Gregory Bernstein at Gastro Health..Though he has done many procedures and seemed to be a pleasant person in the initial appointment, he is not respectful of patients' need for information. This became clear when I set up a followup appointment to discuss his findings, many of which were in technical language. To my amazement, he refused to answer any of my questions, saying dismissively and patronizingly that all I needed to know is to take the medication he prescribed. This reflects a bygone attitude in medicine. The American Medical Association guidelines emphasize the importance of providing information to patients. Dr. Bernstein 's behavior with me was directly contrary, disrespectful and dismissive.
I could not recommend Dr. Bernstein more! I brought my husband to him after two medical professionals had told me that “he’s young and it’s probably nothing.” Dr. Bernstein listened to my concerns and agreed with my concerns. He did a full work up and performed the colonoscopy that found stage 1 colon cancer, stage 1 rectal cancer, and led to a lynch syndrome diagnosis. I sincerely appreciate his bedside manner and way he treats his patients. I’m grateful he was the doctor to deliver the worst possible news. As a cancer nurse, I have worked with all kinds of doctors and he is top notch! He is very good at what he does and takes a more holistic approach. I’m very picky about doctors but he is absolutely someone I would recommend to anyone!!
Just an awful demoralizing experience with this doctor. Dr. Bernstein did not do very much to help me. I dealt with a chronic fissure and his solution was to give me a colonoscopy that turned up nothing and attempt the same treatment for six months. When I expressed concerns he told me they weren't causing issues and was very dismissive of me when I was dissatisfied with my treatment options. It felt like we were talking about his body and experience rather than my own. Additionally, when I first came here the staff was really disorganized and no one seem to know what was going on and directions were just entirely unclear on what they needed from me. I went elsewhere for care and recommend you do the same.
