Gresham Library

Description

The Gresham Library, also known as the Gresham Regional Library, is a branch of the Multnomah County Library in Gresham in the U.S. state of Oregon. The branch offers the Multnomah County Library catalog of two million books, periodicals and other materials.HistoryThe building occupied by the library was constructed in 1989 and opened in January 1990. It replaced a 1913 Tudor style building at 410 N. Main Street, which had been a Carnegie library. The new building was paid for by a $2.1 million fund-raising campaign designed in part by then-Governor Neil Goldschmidt, including $1.7 million serial levy approved by Multnomah County voters in 1987 and a projected $200,000 from the sale of the original building. Following the levy, three attempts to buy suitable property that could be developed within the $1.7 million approved had failed by mid-1988, leading to the consideration of several more expensive options. The new building is 13 times the size of the original library, and was designed as a "superbranch" to "usher in a new era in library services in both Gresham and the entire county system." Upgrades included a computer lab/media center, a community room, a teen study area, a children's room, a conference room, skylights, and a tower to help it blend in with the surrounding shopping center. With space for 75,000 volumes, the 20000ft2 library building was designed as the Multnomah County system's second-largest, behind Portland's Central Library. The original library building was purchased by the Gresham Historical Society, which turned it into a museum as well as housing its main headquarters there.

It was nicely organized and clean but.. I did not like the loud employees chatting and I certainly did not like how no one made the 2 very loud elder men move or leave, especially after a person tried gently to have them be quieter and they became unruly, rude and even louder. I left not long afterwards and don't plan on coming back.
I just finished a book series and was looking for a new fantasy novel to check out. One of the librarians approached me and asked about the series I just finished Earthsinger Chronicles by L. Penelope, and showed me the tool linked on the website through NoveList that recommends similar books and helped me find some new books to check out. I wish I'd gotten her name, the shared excitement reminded me of how I'd felt as a kid going to the library. Really appreciate their help and grateful for this public resource!
It was a lovely quick visit! I got to talk to one of my favorite kinds of people - a librarian! With their help I was able to find this little texture of my grandparent's street and how long our neighbors had been neighbors before I was born.
To help me on the computer, they asked me for the last four of my s.s. # and my E-mail. I should of wrote it down then kept it, as other users were sharing the same table as i- so didn't have much of a " secure setting" feeling about disclosing even that info. Not their fault, but I myself, will surely just write it for them the next time.
I appreciate MultCo Libraries out here in East County. Not only do we have 4 locations, but they transfer between branch. Greatly appreciated!
Still the best bargain in town! Knowledgeable and professional librarians are always ready to help you get the resources that you need. Enough space to explore the shelves without interruption.
I was thrilled and grateful and hopeful to see my local branch open back up again. I had planned to go there this morning. Key word there is morning. Then I looked up the hours. They are NEVER open before noon!! All the hours are the same!! So... if you are only available in the morning, I guess your tax dollars are just going in the toilet. I get you can only afford to open six hours a day... oh wait. No, I dont get that at all because most other branches are still closed for no good reason I might point out. So why aren't the few branches that are open, open longer hours? Wouldn't this help out your librarians? Or are they having too much fun sleeping in on our tax dollars? And all the unemployed and homeless and young parents who really really badly need this place, just sit and wait for four hours. Four hours that could be productive learning time. Four hours of productive job searching time. But no. The doors are locked and nobody gets to move forward with their lives because librarians can't get out of bed before 11am, apparently. I have voted for library funding Every Single Time in the last 30 years. So ... if I'm this ticked off about my tax dollars ... good luck getting funded next time around. I think librarians are essential workers. I just wish they would start acting like it.
As much as I appreciate having the recourse available in my community, I wish they had the first books of a lot of the available series’s. Especially the manga, I couldn’t find a single first book Every time I’ve gone in, hoping to start a new series, I leave disappointed and empty handed.
BEST library! Love the librarians; especially Karen--the EX chicken owner! A most "addictive" place I go. When I go in to pick up a book I have put on "hold", which I do a number of times each month, I almost ALWAYS end up leaving with 1 or more of the featured/displayed books! way to go friends :
I used to love going into the Gresham library and looking at the magazines and checking out books and looking at the movies. But a few years ago they changes the carpet. And since then I haven't been able to go into the library. The carpet they chose for the main part of the library causes health issues for me. It gives me migraines and hurts my eyes. So for this reason I can't go to the gresham library. I don't know if this effects others or if I'm just one of the unlucky ones! But I hope when they go to pick the next carpet they just pick one solid color without designs. But the staff are friendly on the phone.
