The avalanche breakfast is delicious. Big portions my bf and I share. I tried the Monte Cristo sandwich because of good reviews but I personally thought it was just ok. My bf got the French toast we both liked it but an average French toast breakfast was $20. Overall still worth going back to when we're in town. It gets very crowded. Nice staff but bathroom looked like it hadn't been dusted or thoroughly cleaned in a very long time.
I love breakfast, so when I say that this is one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had, well, YOU SHOULD PAY ATTENTION. On a weekend where Big Bear was crowds crowds crowds, it was nice to walk in here around noon and not have to wait for a table. Service Staff here are friendly and attentive. Atmosphere Like a small town diner. Charming but no frills. Food I really shortened the first two sections but I wanted to talk about the food. My girlfriend and I ordered coffee, which included unlimited refills, the French Toast Sandwich, and The Rail. The coffee was fine, but the food? Surprisingly great. The French Toast Sandwich One of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had. The French toast was just sweet enough and so soft that I wish I could use it as a mattress topper. The sausage was plentiful and tasty, the eggs were fluffy, and the cheese was cheesy. The only thing that was just okay was the hash browns, which should have been crispier. The Rail “A gamble,” as my girlfriend described it. We didn’t know what to expect, but it sounded like a loco moco. It’s essentially an open-faced burger smothered in gravy, and it’s incredible. We got the home fries with The Rail and they were much better than the hash browns. Price Reasonable for the big portions. Recommend? Yes, we’ll be coming back the next time we’re in Big Bear
My first time visiting this restaurant and I have to say I was very impressed. The food is so tasty I had the Cali Scramble avocado, cilantro artichoke bacon crumbled and cheese sitting on top of hash browns served in a hot ceramic pan. The other dishes were French toast and eggs, chili cheese omelette which was also amazing! The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Staff was very energetic compared to younger staffs at the multiple other restaurants we visited over the course of a weekend. Very friendly and quick about service. Didn't see anyone sitting around doing nothing. Communication verbally between the floor and the kitchen staff was great. They control the flow of incoming orders for the cooks so they don't get overwhelmed despite the heavy attendance at this place. Didn't have to wait very long and it was even less than they originally told us. Only reason for 4 stars is that the country fired steak was lacking in flavor and the Corned beef hash was simply underwhelming. Not bad at all, but on the bottom end of what I've tried before and cooked for myself. The portions were huge so that is not an issue. Great value overall.
Loved the pancake and omelet. Cold milk and nd warm syrup... that's important. Wheelchair seating ,too. Treat ya like family. Can't go wrong here. 2 yrs later and still great place for breakfast
This is a hidden gem at Big Bear Lake. We were very lucky and fortunate to have chosen this place for lunch. We had the pleasure to be attended by the cook Ray. He was super pleasant. We ordered the meat lovers omelet and the country scramble omelet. Very generous portions. Very considerate price. We came in a UK per hungry and we left the place full, and very satisfied. We are definitely going to come back at this place next time we visit Big Bear. Favorite place for BEST BREAKFAST!!
The food in this place is very good, tasty an huge dishes. The place is very clean and the staff friendly and they are always trying to do the best. The breakfast with chorizo is delicious!! Just next to the main road makes things easy to get there.
The Hungry mountain man is a whole lot of food and quite delicious. The mushroom burger was not so delicious and was a bit overcooked. The staff is very nice. I would go back here as I did enjoy most of the food.
Best Breakfast I've ever had!! Steak was so moist, juicy and flavorful! My husband even said that the steak had a lot of flavor and he knows his steak and how to make it.The hashbrown texture was perfect. I ate at the breakfast bar and ordered my family's breakfast to go since they were all still in bed. 9am ish there was no wait, but come 9:30-10:30am many people kept arriving and were standing and waiting. Worth the wait. My husband said the sour dough toast was better at the Teddy Bear restaurant. I had wheat toast and it was delicious with the perfect spread of butter covering the surface, not just the middle.
We have enjoyed breakfast here a couple times, while visiting Big Bear. Super friendly environment and large portions. Gets busy so you may have to wait but it's worth it.
