Gut Check Kids is a fitness program designed to help kids stay fit and active throughout the summer. The program will consist of twelve sessions, meeting four days a week for three weeks. Our goal is to provide expert instruction in an environment that facilitates measurable gains in fitness for every athlete. Regardless of fitness level or athletic ability, the program offers kids a structured and consistently varied fitness-training regimen. We focus on maximizing stamina, cardiovascular endurance, strength, power, flexibility, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy using dynamic movements.
Trainer: Courtney Burns has been running Gut Check Kids every summer for the last six years. She has trained under Head Gut Check trainers Tim Brown and Tom Carlier for the past nine years. She graduated from Rockland High School in 2009 where she played varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball. She continued her basketball career at Rhode Island College where she was a four-year starter. In addition to starting her four years there, she also helped lead her team to their 1st Little East Conference Championship in school history and to the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. Throughout her time there she was a two year captain and received awards such as: LEC 1st team All-Rookie, LEC 1st team All-Conference, LEC 1st team All-Defense, Rhode Island College’s MVP, and was also named as the school’s Most Distinguished Athlete of the Year. Over her four years there she was in charge of all aspects of the teams strength and conditioning. Even after she finished her college career she will remained in charge of the teams strength and conditioning. Courtney was also selected to a USA All Star team last year in which she traveled to Italy to play basketball against some of the best players in the country. She was also selected last summer to play semi-professional basketball for the Lady Thunder of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League. This past year Courtney served as the Assistant Women’s basketball Coach at Johnson and Wales University. She loves working with children and hopes that she can pass down some of her knowledge to the younger athletes that she trains.
