Diet - Food is the most anabolic substance in the world! By anabolic we
do not mean the drug, simply put, anabolic means your body is in a state of growth. We emphasize proper nutrition. Whether it be before the game, after a practice, or throughout the day, fueling your body with what it needs to perform is crucial.
Gym - One of the most overlooked yet essential components in weight training if FORM! I cannot stress enough how proper form can either make or brake an athlete. We have all seen the guy at the gym arm curling an impressive amount of weight however... that is the only thing impressive because he's looked the same for years, and the only time his body changes is when he swings his arms while attempting to perform the exercise. Understanding the mechanics of an exercise allows you yo push your body to its full potential, obtain results faster, perform effectively, and remain safe. Take care of your body but most of all, listen to it.
Supplements - Although food is the most anabolic supplement in the world, you may not have the time to sit at home and cook 4,5,6 or 8 meals. The world of sports nutrition has made it easier for athletes to properly substitute in place of a meal. Be wary however, some protien shakes have high sugar and/or sodium content due to the effort in making the shake taste great. Do not hesitate to ask but do not get sold! Some health food stores are commission based and ignore your needs in order to make more money. Always read the nutritional facts, you'll be surprised what you discover.
These, as well as many others, are areas in witch an athlete will begin to learn and understand. YOU ARE AN ATHLETE! You have already set yourself aside from everyone else, with that said, your mentality and way of life should be different from your average Joe.
