This school is excellent why because it’s well organized the staff is absolutely great and the front office is so nice and kind. The teachers are awesome keep up great work with parents and students. The teachers address each student’s individual learning style and academic level. I’m happy to be at this great school.
I wouldn't say its the best school, but its great because of the extremely diverse classes there. The school has fun teachers that will teach you well if you stay quiet of course and at the same time joke around. P.S.: to all of the people against harmony who say it teaches religion, ask anyone you want its a lie. P.P.S.: The school is not discriminatory to other races, it has one of the most diverse staff I have seen in a school.
This is my sons second year at this school and he loves it! He came from Kahla and HATED getting up to go to school. Now, we are coming up on the summer break and he is actually upset he will not see his classmates and teachers for a few months. The teachers are great they seem to really care about their students and they provide access to so many learning tools in order to give the student the ability to truly succeed.
The school in itself is amazing. The academics there are good, and the learning standards are high. The discipline is strict to the point where no serious problems arise, and are cut off before they turn into something worse. I have a son who goes there, and we're very happy with the experience; however, because of this Harmony School of Discovery is mostly appropriate for dedicated and academically advanced students, causing certain parents to dislike the school. With all of these factors, Harmony School of Discovery is one of the best schools in the surrounding area.
I have been in Harmony for 6 years now, and I hate it. In the beginning, when they had newly opened up, I liked it. Later, the good staff members started leaving and they hired new teachers. The new teachers were quite ignorant and constantly gave DPS thinking it would fix their problems. When Miss. Mattingley left, Mrs. Clayton became the discipline principle, and favored the bad students. They would do wrong things and not get in trouble. In elementary school the students were good, and you could only get in the school by taking an interview, but later they removed that policy and the bad students started piling in. There was a increase in drug issues, and soon there were more fights, and more "drama". I have experienced the highs and the lows of this school and the most recent year I was there, was not good. I met some really good teachers like Mrs. Parrent, Mr. Ayers, Miss. Shivers, Mr. Serdar, Mr. Bozkurt both of them, and Mr. Zigga. But there were many bad ones like Mrs.Jones, Mr. Hasan, Mrs. Hernandez, Miss. Jimenez, and Mr. Zeybeck. I am so glad I am leaving this school because they don't offer your child the best curriculum.
I am a 9th grade student at Harmony, this is my first year, and I can honestly say Harmony isn't bad at all. Yeah i guess Ms.Mattingly can be mean sometimes, but this is a college prep school what do you expect? Their preparing us to go to college, their not suppose to act like their your friend. And the kids we are different people, we all make mistakes, "NO ONE IS PERFECT'' and for someone to just call all of us something we are not is just plan wrong. But overall I really like the school, and if your thinking about wanting to send your kid, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this school.
Okay. I've been debating on making this because I have no clue how to explain this. But, here I go. I've been here for about 4 years because I thought this school would be better for my education and safety since most of these schools are not the best environment The first year I was there I was not very happy because of the teachers, nothing really happened. After the second year I was being constantly bullied by this girl who no longer goes to that school, she would spread rumors which affected my school years later on and call me ugly names, It would have been stupid of me not to report it, so that's what I went to go do. This girl was Favorited by the schools head discipline principal, This lady gave me false promises and told me that she would handle it. Long story short, SHE DID NOTHING. This girl was still in that school bullying not just me but other girls. This girl left this school a year later. The 3rd year I realized that this schools education was not what it was told to be, my classmates knew a lot more that I did mostly in math and it made me confused, I suddenly knew that this school was not "one grade ahead" but one grade lower. I had to learn things myself, ALEKS did help me, though. I learned a lot more on ALEKS than all these teachers combined, the reason for that is because these teachers only focus on one topic in one day, then they move on. There's no review until the actual test which is just horrible. Even on ALEKS, they make you gain a certain percentage a month.... some of us are slow learners, we need time to actually learn the topic! I had a very low grade in that class because I was a slow learner, I had the exceptional percentage but I was moving slow, what kind of system is that??? The fourth year, I saw the education AGAIN. This school is just very slow in general and I do believe that these teachers have favoritism, not all of them but I can name a few. I'm not going to do that because of the privacy, but I'll say one that really bothers a bunch: specific kids get pulled out of class so that the "teacher" can talk to them about gossip and what's been going on. Besides that, I've seen A LOT of bullying happening, and secret fights the fights are with the girls who are Favorited by the discipline principal picking fights with other girls . I've also seen cyber bullying and kids who complain about it and the staff does nothing to prevent it. I am tired of just seeing victims of bullying being pushed aside like nothing is happening to them. I don't want them to face what I did because I know how it felt like to get bullied and nobody doing anything about it. Because after my second year, I did not have many friends and every time I made a new friend they would tell me the same thing, " I thought you were mean because ____ told me you were".
The food here is trash. Most of the time, the bread here is as hard as a rock. Even though the pizza is greasy as frick, it's still dry. The food is so dry, I started putting milk on my pizza. You people need to buy better and healthier food for us.
My step daughter attends this school. She is a Sp.Ed student she has alot of needs. We were very happy to know she would be in this loving & nurturing environment! The love and quality starts at the front desk from Ms.Eve & Ms. Maci to the nurse Ms. Jackie who also loves each child like they're her own. Ms. Lee is a mom to all and her door is always open. Ms. Simmons is an awesome english teacher ,Mr. Salinas rocks in history, Ms. John is an angel she was a chemistry teacher now she helps in so many ways. Ms. Ren is a math teacher who helps to no end! The entire faculty and staff at Harmony School of Discovery are definitely the ones you want caring for and educating your child. Ms. Morrison is the Sp.Ed coordinator & she works hard to get things done for your child. Ms. Clayton & Mr. Bobette see to it that the children are safe & disciplinary actions are in place they are fair, stern & loving ! This is not an enviroment for every child , but if they are willing to work hard, be apart of a winning team, listen, follow directions and just be a kid this is the place for your child. Thanks Harmony School of Discovery we love you all!!!
I attended to this school and I had mostly a great time with friends and trips and events but my senior year was hell; didn’t attend to senior trip cause my advisor was a jerk. And I missed out senior video cause I was suspended for something I did not do. They thought I hacked the schools WiFi systems just cause I had the password for HSD STAFF WIFI. They said someone hacked the schools calendar on their page and wrote inappropriate things! They assumed was me! They took the laptop I had and kept it to find traces and guess what NOTHING! But nah they had to mark it as if I was “tempering” with the network. They don’t even know the definition of “tempering” they have english classes there lol. Real person that hacked their page got away with it and probably laughed at the end. I will never forget that! And the IT guy can’t even secure the schools network systems! Anybody can get the password. I also got in trouble for posting a picture of my old AP and I that left on the schools TV, my old AP was fine with it until the new AP took her place she used it against me but she did that on the day she thought I was “tempering” with the WiFi system. I appreciate some staffs there but I am done with this school and thank god im out cause I’m tired of being accused for someone else’s stupidity.
