Went for a day hike, did about 10 miles of the trails. Really enjoyed the river. There are simple trails that allow you to see the rapids, while small, the bubbling water flowing over the rocks is pretty cool and rare for this area. These can be seen on a short hike without doing a long-distance hike. I would say less than five minutes from the parking along the road. A ranger at the entrance can direct you if that is what you want to see. There are very nice boardwalks and paths along the river in this area. Very user friendly and very scenic. There are other areas with bathrooms, camping etc. We only hiked the trails. Going over the suspension bridge was a very fun experience. The water was much clearer than I anticipated. We saw a good many fish, and there were many alligators to see too. The trails were clear enough to follow, and not so wide as to feel like you were hiking on a road. Doing the longest portion that goes past the route to the primitive camping we only saw one other set of hikers. I enjoyed this area greatly as we saw some huge oaks and the portion that runs along the river gave a real glimpse at a river in a very natural state.
This state park gives you the best parts of natural Florida. It is exceptionally well maintained, and trails are easy to navigate and follow. There is a playground for kids, and my son loves it. There is bountiful wildlife to see here- this past trip we saw lots of turtles and an unusual amount of red shouldered hawks. There is really good tree cover for most of the trails, so it is one of the better trails to undertake during the summertime.
Me and my husband went camping for a couple of days here. Beautiful park with lots of hiking areas near river. Well maintained and lots to see. Both primitive and RV camping available with water and power hookups. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Very peaceful when we were there. Can't wait to go back.
Visited on Saturday 7/9/22 with my wife and kids 13/10/8. we only hiked the Rapids Trail, which was excellent. The trail was well maintained and dry, which was a surprise as storms had gone through the night before. We saw wildlife birds, fish, alligators and the rapids and riverbank are unique sights for the area. Will definitely return to hike the other trails probably without kids! and enjoy the huge swimming pool when it reopens in 2023.
Incredible park, the trails are manicured enough to walk but not so much that it makes you feel like it’s too humanized. I came here really wanting to see an alligator and on the way out we were able to see one swimming in the river. The water is crystal clear, you can see TONS of fish swimming around. There were some incredible birds as well and some turtles. Out of our 7 day trip to Tampa this was definitely one of the best places we went.
My family and I spent our Easter morning exploring this gorgeous state park! You definitely need mosquito repellent, but that's true for all of Florida. The trails were easy for our elderly dog and my son enjoyed the playground.
Absolutely love routine hikes here for myself or a day out with the family. Loads of Scenery and Nature to enjoy to include the Class 2 rapids. The bridge is an absolute gem. Just explore!! Enjoy the park, keep it as you found it because it's beautiful
Hiked the Seminole Trail. Great little hike! I went clockwise and the first half of the hike follows along the river. Some really great views and not that many people. The suspension bridge was cool. Seen a few fish down in the water. Mostly Plecos. I went back and looked at the primitive campsites. There are 4 sites. It's a nice open, clean area with fire pits and each site.
This was a 10/10 Saturday adventure for us!!!! we enjoyed the walk from the suspension bridge all the way through the Seminole trail. It’s such an easy trail for any first time Trail Blazers. If you’re going in the summer….I suggest you plan for the heat and pack water. I love how the trail is colored coated with tree markings the entire way so you’re sure not to get lost; Also numbered posts can be seen as you continue to walk with emergency info instructions if needed. Throughout the trail you’re sure to come across and see birds, squirrels, spiders, beautiful plants and trees, wild mushrooms, mud, and different bodies of water including the river. If you’re lucky you may see a gator off in the distance in the water. The suspension bridge is a MUST! The park also offers canoeing, camping, and has a pool, which should be opening again next year. Don’t litter and have fun! This state park is a gentle reminder how beautiful old Florida truly is. I highly recommend.
Great campground with showers, laundry facility, playgrounds, picnic tables and grills, pavilions... Easy and hard trails... You'll see alligators, lots of turtles, a few hawks flying around, and if you're up late you'll see the racoons come out. Lots of camping sites for RVs and tents, each with picnic table, fire pit, electric and potable water though I bought water out of vending machines for drinking... Pool, cafe & fort all closed... Gov. Desantis likes to brag about budget surplus, well he has a surplus cause he's NOT taking care of our State Parks along with a few other things I won't mention here!!!
