I've been getting my annual check ups at this office for about 5 years and have always been very pleased with the courtesy of the staff and the thoroughness of the examination. I don't recall who I saw the first two years. she left the practice. I've been seeing Jennifer Santos, NP the past 3 years. Jennifer always takes her time and answers all of my questions and concerns. On the one occasion that I was late it did take a bit longer. I called enroute to let them know. If one is late, they of course take someone else first or the whole days schedule will be disrupted for them. Being late can easily add an hour to one's wait time. When a professional sees a patient, they have to write or dictate detailed notes during/after the visit so that nothing important is left out. It's not just a simple matter of moving from one patient room to another. Everything is timed for the average visit time and the average time to record one's note. I highly recommend this office and Jennifer.
Hawthorne provides several services, so i didn't have to go all over town for tests. Jill Smith was so kind, professional, and thorough. She answered my concerns and scheduled me for tests and a procedure without delay. I highly recommend Hawthorne OBGYN and Jill Smith.
Review: As a WOC which is more likely to be unheard, overlooked and to DIE during child birth. I am extremely disappointed in the lack of concern, care, transparency, accuracy and follow up with this office. As an expecting mama you’ll want people that care and take your concerns seriously enough to do their jobs, keep in check unconscious bias through continual training and maybe diversifying beyond the receptionist desk. Experience: I went in due to having unusual discharge, requested a pap, got a swab that was not sent in. The PA or OB why didn’t tell me her name, was there for all of 5 minutes to ASSUME the diagnosis leading to a misdiagnosis that caused bleeding weeks later in my pregnancy for being untreated. I got the correct diagnosis from another OBGYN that actually did a pap and submitted the culture. Also, the nurse hung up on me out of frustration when I was trying to get straight answers from her because she was being unclear about what was true versus how she felt! Also, I was not told that I would be donating blood so sat for hours without food or water they don’t have vending machines before giving up a lot of blood making me extremely exhausted as I was leaving the office. There’s more but that’s the most relevant. Beware and be mindful and do research before you choose where you’ll be TRUSTING providers and their support staff for your life and your new child’s life.
I have been going to Hawthorne for over 15 years, after a bad experience at Woman’s Care as a teen. I initially saw a PA or NP, but she retired and “graduated” me to Dr Thompson. Let me say from the beginning, I love Dr Thompson. He’s kind, reassuring, actually looks at you when you talk to him, and helps you with any type of referral. My husband and I had trouble getting pregnant, and though Thompson tried everything he could, he ended up sending us to a fertility clinic. It was successful and we got pregnant with unplanned twins. Now, I will admit, the wait times are, as others have stated, long. And until I was 22 weeks, I had no reason to worry. I was pregnant during Covid and woke up one day with cramps and back pain, then some clear discharge I now know it was amniotic fluid. I called and they could see me immediately. I got there and did not have to wait and they took me back to get my vitals. My blood pressure was high, so they did not waste time on an exam, instead wanted a tv ultrasound immediately. I could tell something was wrong because the tech ran and got the doctor. Dr Braquet came in right after her and took a look. He stepped out for a split second and came back in, explaining one of my twins was partially in the birth canal, losing fluid. He ordered us straight to the ER, and followed us there. He is not my regular doctor, Thompson is, nor was he the doctor on my rotation that week. But he went with us to the hospital. Soon, Dr Scherer joined him. We were in the hospital for over 2 weeks, so I saw every provider Hawthorne has, and they were all angles. They did their best to save my twins, but eventually, when Masciello delivered them at 24 weeks, only one survived. The doctors 100% got us to viability and gave my survivor a chance. Dr Masciello even visited him in the NICU when I wasn’t there, but the nurses told me. My point is this: before our emergency, I hated the wait times. Then the worst happened to us. The day I had the bad ultrasound I know we caused someone to have a long wait because we stole an ultrasound spot AND a doctor that was supposed to be there. They constantly called each other to compare notes on my case while we were in the hospital. You never know what’s going on behind the scenes. Someone could be getting life altering news, and need a little more time with the doctors. Give them some grace, they are saving lives. Additionally, at my first postpartum visit, I was suffering from some severe PPD, PTSD, and PPA from losing a baby and one being extremely critical. As soon as Dr Masciello asked how I was, I burst into tears. He jumped to his feet and gave me a hug and some tissue, and reassured me I did nothing wrong and it’s okay to feel the way I did. Thanks to the severity of our situation, he asked me how I felt about Zoloft which I was hoping for. Later that night he called my husband because I told him how concerned my husband was but he couldn’t come because of Covid. He was so kind and caring. All of them are. If wait times are the worst thing you experience there, count your blessings.
The office staff is very friendly and helpful. Wait time was very reasonable. I was seeing a new physician although I have used this office for many years and was a bit anxious about meeting a new physician Dr. Simmons made the meeting and transition very pleasant and easy, I would recommend the office and the doctor to anyone without reservation.
Honestly, if I didn't like Dr. Thompson so much I would switch. I absolutely can not stand dealing with the other staff, particularly over the phone. They are typically rude and act like they know everything about your situation. Dr. Thompson and I had agreed on a plan of care for this pregnancy since he has to follow me closely and when calling in to change my appointment back to see him considering he left a note saying to schedule with him on my paper I hand in instead of Dr. Simmons they told me that's not how it works. Yes, typically they do rotate you between each doc. but considering I have to have a SCHEDULED C-section I already know who it will be scheduled with. After getting it changed to Dr. Thompson and us hanging up they proceeded to call me back to tell me that I have to see other doctors moving forward even though that's not the plan as of now between the Doc. and I. She then said well I'll be sending him a message. The other very concerning thing is the wait time. For an ultrasound and visit with the doc, I'm there no less than 2 - 2 1/2hours and most of that time is spent waiting. Again Dr. Thompson is AMAZING!!! I just wish he would move to a different office. Not everyone has the same situation across the board, they need to figure out how to work with their patients.
I went in last Monday due to urinary symptoms.I gave a sample and had an exam.I was then given an antibiotic i picked up late tuesday. On Wednesday I took the antibiotic and had a reaction to it.I phoned the nurse and asked about results and told her about my reaction. She shared results of bacteria in the urine and shewould have to contact doctor Jill and call back.I received the call back and was asked if I still had symtoms.i said yes.i reiterated about the reaction and symptons.she said there was nothing she could do.I phoned back the next day and asked to talk with dr.jill.i was told she would call me back.never received a call bac on fridsy.never heard back. Its now sunday no relief and no call back.very unconcerned about patient health ther.Would not recommended.
I've been coming here for a little over 2 years. Dr. Thompson is a GODSEND! The nurses and front desk staff are amazing as well. I have seen people talking about wait times. When you have to wait a while, yes it is frustrating, but that is a small sacrifice to be provided the care recieved here. These doctors have to rush to emergency deliveries for their patients sometimes and then they rush back to ensure you are seen as well. This practice puts quality care ahead of the quantity of patients. They are ACTUAL doctors who work hard to keep us all happy, and healthy. If you do not want to wait, there are plenty of clinics that will get you in and out quickly, no matter the cost.
All the ladies at the front desk were so delightful! They got me checked in quickly but also made me laugh which was nice to put me "at ease".
When I first walked into the office I felt very comfortable. The staff was very friendly. I was extremely impressed and pleased with Dr. Simmons.
