Somewhere along the way, our relationship with food took a very wrong turn.
Where farmers and everyday gardeners once loved and nurtured our livestock and crops, we now have massive manufacturing plants pumping out food products.
Where kitchens were once filled with home cooked aromas from old family recipes, we now buzz through drive through windows or call for take-out without a second thought.
We no longer teach our children the importance of good nutrition – through word or example – and they’re suffering.
We are all suffering.
Our country is sick.
I don’t need to throw out statistics here because you can literally see it.
Everywhere.
Our supermarkets – SUPER markets – are enormous and their shelves are lined with boxes and bags of artificial fillers, colors, flavors and eye catching packaging that we have become addicted to.
The media calls us out on being tired, overweight and sick but offers only temporary fixes, not REAL long term, life extending solutions.
Even our own government has prescribed a “heart healthy” diet that promises to heal us, yet we’re left strapped for energy and growing fatter and sicker and more medicated.
We have veered so far off the path of wellness that sadly not everyone will make it back.
There is no quick fix for where we are.
We need to educate ourselves on what we are consuming and make some big changes.
We need to look at worked in the past - wholesome, nourishing foods and mindful eating practices - and move forward from there towards healthy, vibrant lives.
This goes out to all women whose lives have become fast paced and destination based, running from work to appointment to school to activity to playdate to sports, wondering why you don’t have the energy to keep up, yet you can’t slow down and you don’t feel good despite trying all the latest diet trends out there.
