Healthy Start is a FREE program to help pregnant moms and dads, women, and babies to have healthy lives.
Who does it? Pregnant moms and dads, women, and babies who live in the zip codes with the highest low birth weights, premature birth rates, and infant deaths.
What is it? A free program to help pregnant moms, dads, women, and babies have healthier lives, Community Health Workers, Nurses, Dietiticians, Social Workers, Counsellors, Certified Nurse Midwives, Certified Nurse Practioners, and Doctors work in the program. Our program will help sign you and your family up for insurance. It will also help you learn more about pregnancy, labor, how to care for your baby, and parenting. We collect data in our program to show we are making a helping to improve lives in the community.
Why do it? It will help you get the services and education needed to have healthier lives. Low risk patients have Community Health Worker they can call or will do home visits and patients at a higher risk are offered their own Home Visiting Nurse. We have an incentive program that rewards you for healthy behaviors like keeping appointments, taking classes, and stopping smoking. You can earn gift cards, a pack-n-play portable crib, a layette with lots of baby items, or a booster seat.
Where is it? Located at Miami Valley Hospital in the Berry Building, a part of Five Rivers Center for Womens' Health and Five Rivers Pediatircs.
When is it? It is throughout your care through Five Rivers Center for Womens' Health, while pregnant and in between pregnancies. For babies, it is until they are 2 years old in Five Rivers pediatrics.
How can you join? If you are living in zip codes 45402, 45403, 45405, 45414,45416, 45417, or 45426 and you come to Five Rivers Center for Womens' Health or Five Rivers Pediatrics for care for yourself and/or your baby, you and/or your baby are eligible. Just ask to speak with a Healthy Start Staff member. You will then get more information about the program and it's benefits.
