The Helena Police Department was founded in 1881, before statehood for the state of Montana. Our department currently employs 51 full-time sworn officers. We also operate the city/county criminal justice records office and the county-wide 911 dispatch center.
Administration and records offices are located in the Law Enforcement Center at 221 Breckenridge Street in Helena. General office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00a - 5:00p, except state and federal holidays. Police Administration can be reached at (406) 447-8479.
The Records Section is responsible for maintaining residential and commercial alarm permits, warrant information for all courts in the county, records of protections orders, and dissemination of police and sheriff reports. Records can be reached at (406) 447-8469.
