"Brookdale Library opened for service in 1981. It was the first library built for the Brooklyn Center community. The library underwent a major renovation and expansion in 2002-03 and reopened in 2004 in its current location. The library looks kid friendly, but it is deceiving. Almost all the toys are locked in a room that is only accessible for a couple hours a day. The cool dragon is barricaded behind shelves of books that keep kids from touching it. The castle has a little area they can be in, but mostly Everything in the children’s area is look, but don’t touch.
This library is perfect for any parent who needs a break! We visit plenty of libraries around the Twin Cities and this one is my favorite. It is conveniently located in a building connected to the DMV, courthouse, and other county departments. It has a coffee shop for you and the kids to refuel. The library itself is beautiful. The kids' section is tucked in the back right corner where it's showered in natural light. There is a vast arrangement of toys for kids to play with, including a separate, closed-off room with even more developmentally-appropriate toys to refine fine and motor skills. NOTE: This separate play room is only open at certain times of the day. I would call ahead to ensure it is open for use if you plan to go there for this reason. Toys/activities include, in the kids' area: dollhouse with dolls, tessellations, wind tunnel for floating colorful cloths, farmer's market stand and food; and inside the play room: slide, dinosaurs big bonus!, farm house with animals, vehicles, trampoline, crawl tunnel--and MORE! So much more. We drive 15 minutes and past at least 4 other libraries just to get to this one.
It's a good spot to get books and relax to study though can be a little loud around the computer otherwise is a great place.
Very spacious, good use of natural light. The children's section looks like a wonderful space to spend time with kids. Mine are grown so I appreciate the easy to pickup holds shelf and self checkout. There are also lots of computers available to use.
Haven't been to this library in years! Great selection of books and helpful staff to find what you need. Plenty of services too.
My girls and I enjoy visiting here regularly. They have a great Children's Section with a great Graphic Novels collection to entice my picky reader. The staff are also so friendly and helpful. Would definitely reccommend.
They have lots of selections of books and movies and also computers and someone to help if need be.
This is a nice library to take kids to. Lots of books to choose from. Large area for kids to move around with large colorful elements to entertain their minds and creative thought.
Love this library! Everyone here is always friendly, and they're willing to help me out if I have vague book questions. I like looking for horror books to read, and since that's not a section in most libraries I appreciate when people are willing to make recommendations!
the library used to be really good now it reeks of weed. the seats have gotten old and are ripped up and dirty… funding needs to go into the library !!
