High Plains Elementary is a wonderfully diverse neighborhood school meeting the needs of each child. Our personal atmosphere, caring staff, and strong parent/community involvement provide a positive school environment. Parents are welcome and encouraged to take part in their child’s education at home and at school through participating in PTO and the High Plains Accountability Committee (HPAC), and volunteering in the school. Our primary focus is on the core curriculum of reading, writing, and math. Students participate in science, technology, library, Spanish, music, art, and physical education. We offer a variety of supportive programs such as English as a Second Language, reading and math intervention, talented and gifted, special education, and counseling. A preschool program, which began in 2010, is offered to our families in collaboration with the Community Partnership for Child Development. Students may participate in activities before, during, and after school which include our breakfast program, choir, theater, technology, sports club, after school help (ASH), tutoring, and science/STEM club. High Plains’ expectations provide every student with a safe and nurturing environment through our character education program and school-wide discipline program, The Responsive Classroom. Students take responsibility for their actions, accept the consequences, and learn life skills to maximize their academic success. In partnership with our community, we develop compassionate and responsible citizens who are effective critical thinkers, innovators, and communicators. Our motto is, “Every Child, Every Day, Everyone.
High Plains Elementary, an inclusive, culturally-diverse neighborhood school, will develop future-ready citizens of knowledge, character, and action by equipping, inspiring, and empowering all students to be confident, global-minded leaders within a safe, socially and emotionally healthly, personalized learning environment.
