they need to shut highland hospital. Down they're nothing but a bunch of liars lazy people that works there they don't runtun your call calls I would not recommend highland to no one You TVthey don't
I was thrown into an ambulance and shipped here after a suicide attempt. Showed up high as hell, didn't know where I was for a good while. Majority of the BHTs are nice Ebony was my favorite, she's the best. The nurses were mostly nice though we didn't see them often, only one of them was hot unfortunately. The doctor I had was horrendous. I received no real help which is expected but I was sent home three days after I attempted suicide in the unit because I was told I'd have to go home. Ended up staying a grand total of 26 days when the average was about 10 but my case was a bit complicated. Everyone complained about the food which was more often than not, so bad it was funny. I'm talking beating cold hard french fries on the table bad. It was like eating literal rocks, but frankly it's better than what I was used to though if you have any standards for cuisine at all you will suffer.
Went here myself when I was 13. All I can say is it was probably the worst mental hospital I've ever been to. I'm an adult now I'll be 20 next month, but my time there still haunts me. I've got a friend who's little brother was taken from foster care to here, and has been there for over 9 months, spending half that time in isolation. My stay was supposed to be 3 days, ended up being 12. My mom had to check me out herself or they would've kept me longer. This place will keep a kid as long as they can for that insurance money. Do yourself a favor, if your child has autism. Avoid highland Clarksburg.
My experience was horrible. I received no help from this place, they were horrible at conveying information, my parents had no idea what was going on while I was on the inside. Staff was bipolar and depending on what bmt you had that day would decide how good or bad the day was. They gave us a schedule but would change things up depending on the bmt. At one point both showers were out of service. They scheduled a follow up appointment, we called the place they scheduled me at, and they didn’t have my name in the system anywhere
Parents and patients, please read this post completely before agreeing to treatment. My parents filed a mental hygiene order because I was hallucinating trying to “better” myself by detoxing from Klonopin. No one asked or told me I was hallucinating...I had no idea. Two police officers came to my apartment around 10pm, aggressively banged my apartment door,- scared the death out of me as I was asleep. I was told about the order, my hands and feet were shackled against my skin which eventually rubbed off, and continued rub into my bloody flesh. There wasn’t enough room between my feet and I kept falling with NO help getting up. I fell so hard one time against my phone that it shattered the screen. My hands were shackled behind my back. The cuff dug into my skin so deep that the wound is still healing 3 months later. I finally got to Hughland, was not given any information, had no idea where I was, and was given no medical attention. Two of the staff members commented and held their noses because how bad I smelled. I couldn’t get help to use the bathroom while being held by the police and urinated in my bed out of desperation. My wounds were not addressed. My wrists and ankles were buried layers into my skin- my ankles burning from the residual urine. I was not wiped down. I was given a new gown and placed into a room to sleep, I had nothing else. No undergarments or winter clothing, no shoes, and most importantly no glasses or contacts. My vision is terrible. It took the staff 6 days to get me my glasses. There was always “trouble” contacting my parents. You couldn’t get anything there. Chapstick had to be approved, which took 40 minutes standing in line for a nurse. I couldn’t see my food or activity questions, asked for someone to read to me daily, but never received help. It took another patient taking a bite of my food for me to eat. I was terrified that the food was poisoned, still couldn’t see and didn’t know where I was. 5 days on juice, which was regulated. Water only at certain times. I had to fold down a juice carton, hide it under my bra, and get water out of the sink. I was given a T-shirt and wool pants, no undergarments. Another family was nice enough to get me some at the dollar tree down the street. I could go on and on. I left more broken than I ever have. The hallucinations subsided after a week, without care. I left devastated, alone, and covered in bruises. My family and closest friend signed the order without knowledge of the process. Please research. It has been 3 months and I am still devastated, alone, and now being treated for PTSD. 9 days in that hospital, 6 of those days without being able to see and NO contact from friends or family, and constant reminders of the experience from the scars on my wrists, ankles, and back have changed my life forever.
I was placed at highland due to a mental hygene. I am an addict. They claim to be a duel diagnostic hospital. This could not be further from the truth. The patients for the most part, are mentally handicapped. Patients have SEVERE mental health disorders. I was treated worse than any human being should ever be treated. Besides the process of a mental hygene, being shackled and chained and held in a holding tank at the police station for 7 hours, the treatment given would be cinsconsidered less than human by most. This is not the way the mentally I'll should be treated in this country. The staff behaved like children. Blatently talking about the patients as though we could not hear. The things they said to one another was insulting and hurtful. The food was inedible and unrecognizable. I opted for the vegetarian diet, and was served a frozerburnt veggie burger every meal following my request. 24 to be exact. This is after I requested going back to the normal meal plain. I asked the nursing staff to note it. I asked my case manager to note the change as well as my treatment team and therapist. I was asked to go to group therapy several times with fellow patients. However the majority of them held the IQ of a 9 yr. Old. I was denied use of my phone to handle financial matters and denied internet access to help find placement upon discharge. I was leaving g the hospital homeless, but agreed to long-term substance abuse facilities. My case manager did minimal work in helping me transref to a facility that could better adress needs. This was the WORST experience of my life and would not recommend this facility to anyone and by no means would I consider having a family member placed here.
So far so good, My son has been to several places for his mental illness. Seems they are taking it seriously. A non profit for mental illness is rare. Bravo!
Had a really good experience here with staff and the support they give. Outpatient scheduling for my follow up was really thorough. Food was terrible but most hospitals have bad food.
Listen... Staff don’t care and the treatment is a joke. Then set me up for follow up treatment at Harmony, Neurostar TMS Transformations & ROOTS in Bridgeport. For more BS. If you are having real mental problems seek better treatment elsewhere.
Trying to find a missing person and they won't even confirm or deny he's in the hospital! I'm 6 hours away!!!!
